    Notes
    • Our family tradition holds that Peter FOY (1745 - 1 March 1782) and Hamutal MOORE (1750 - 1810) were married in Wilmington, New Hanover County, NC, in 1769, but I cannot prove this tradition. In 1769 Peter received a Royal Land Grant from George III for 100 acres surrounded on all sides by vacant land in what was then in Colleton County SC. Peter fought in a mounted SC Militia Company late in the Revolution and was killed at Carter's House/Cloud Creek on 1 March 1782, massacred by "Bloody Bill" Cunningham's Tory Raiders. Hamutal collected Peter's back pay and later married William Wilson.
