    Notes 
    • Donald graduated from Milligan Public School in 1938, after which he served in the Civilian Conservation Corps (1940-1942). He was drafted into the U.S. Army, and was stationed overseas in the European Theatres of Ardennes, Normandy and Rhineland. He was a special vehicle operator. After returning from the service, he operated a filling station in Milligan. He later was employed at Barstow Elevator. In 1958, Don and Helen moved to Exeter where he was employed as a bookkeeper for Co-op Elevators. His final position was as an employee of Jacobsens' Trucking in Fairmont. (Milligan, p 290).

      Havel -- Donald R. "Mick," 78, Milligan, died Thursday (4/27/00) in Lincoln. Born, Milligan. Veteran, WWII.

      Survivors: wife, Helen; daughter, Norene Fitzgerald, Exeter; sisters, Sister M. Frances Ann Havel, Grand Island, Virgie Smith, Lincoln; four step-grandchildren; nieces, nephews.

      Cremation, no services. Burial of ashes at a later date. No visitation. Memorials to Milligan Rescue Unit.
