Robert Earl McElroy, Sr., was born in San Augustine County on August 10, 1939. He was a retired school teacher and coach. He is survived by his wife, Gloria Pratt McElroy of Elkhart; sons, Bobby McElroy of Garrison and Greg McElroy and wife, Jennifer of Hallsville; daughter, YaLinda Upchurch of Elkhart; brother, Charles McElrory of Hallsville; sisters, Sally Masters of Dallas; Freddie Sue Lewis of San Augustine and Melba Lynn Lowman of Donna and five grandchildren Starr Funeral Home of Hemphill was in charge of arrangements. The Sabine County Reporter August 15 issue had a nearly identical obituary, adding only that the interment took place at Shiloh Cemetery with Bro. Jay Tullos and Jerry Fountain officiating, and that the names of Robert's grandchildren were Ashley McElroy, Hope Upchurch, Rowdy Upchurch, Kaitlyn McElroy, and Madison McElroy, according to the Sabine County Reporter.
