  Notes	Email from Ron Hanks (ronhanks@earthlink.net) on August 13, 2006: Sorry for the delay, I have been finding more details on this family. Of the children of James Stewart Hanks, this has been probably the most challenging one to sort out. James W Hanks and Marium Hughes married 26 Mar 1854 in Richland County, Illinois. They are in Gibson Co., IN for the 1860 census with son William, age 4 and son Joel A. age 8/12. I have never found this family in the 1870 census. This created a big problem because James W died 10 Aug 1870 and Marium died 27 Feb1872. The children were placed in different families and have been difficult to track. Probate and guardianship records helped to finally get all the children sorted out. Here is the list of children with notes about what I have been able to find. 2) Joseph/Joel Archibald Hanks b. ca 1859 d. 14 Mar 1889 Gibson Co, IN 1860 census w/parents in Gibson Co age 8/12 1870 census not found 1880 census - Gibson Co, IN in household of Benj. Skelton (he was administrator of estate when Marium died, no relation that I know of. Both the Hanks and Skelton families were very active in the Columbia Baptist church. Note of interest, "Red" Skelton was a descendant of Benjamin Skelton.) 1889 died in Gibson Co No known marraige or children. He was a bit of a puzzle to figure out. In the 1880 & 1860 census he was named Joel. In the probate records for James Stewart Hanks and in the Guardianship records he was variously referred to as Joseph A, Joseph Archibald , Archibald or Archie. Other notes - from church records of Columbia Baptist Church Archie Hanks joined the Columbia Baptist Church (aka White Church) by baptism on 19 Jun 1875. He was dismissed 'by letter' , no date given.
