  Notes	At the time of the 1900 census, the widowed Lizzie Cagle was living in the adjoining household to Joseph Fairchild, also widowed. It appears as if she may have been working as his housekeeper. According to Merritt Mullen, they were married in 1901, and Lizzie died in 1902. Shortly after Lizzie died, Joseph married her oldest daughter, Mamie. When Lizzie's son, Walter, applied for his social security account in 1940, he listed his parents as "Jesse CAGLE and Lizzie CAGLE (same name)." It appears that he did this on purpose, so perhaps his parents were cousins? It could also be that he simply was unaware of his mother's maiden name. Further research should be done to verify this.
