      Doris Jean Mason

      Doris Jean Mason, 66, of Route 1, Pineland (Strickland Crossing Community), died Friday, May 30, 1997, in a traffic accident in Rosevine. Her mother, Carrie Emma Hayes, also died in the accident.

      Mrs. Mason was born Aug. 21, 1930, in Strickland Crossing as a daughter of the late George Strickland and Carie Emma Burns Strickland Hayes. She was a member and past worthy matron of the Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the East Mayfield Baptist Chruch. She was werving as secretary of the Pine Hill Foundatoin.

      Survivors: a son, Steven Ray Mason of Hemphill; stepfather, Albert A. Hayes of Hemphill; a step-brother Alvin A. Hayes of Silsbee; and three grandchildren.

      She was preceded in death by her husband, W. T. "Billy" Mason, on Feb 10, 1997, and a son, Van Thomas Mason, on July 4, 1983.

      Joint funeral services for she and her mother were held for she and her daughter at 2 p.m. Sunday at the chapel of Starr Funeral Home Inc. in Hemphill with Bro.Homer WIlliams and Bro. Vance R. Purtell officiating. Interment followed at Pine Hill Cemetery in Sabine County.
