After his discharge, he married Darlene Tesar and enrolled in the Valparasio Technical Institute in Indiana to become a radio technician. He was called back to active duty during the Korean conflict, and after he completed his service, found employment with the Indianapolis Police and Fire Departments as a radio technician.
