      Walter Valton "Buck" Hawthorne, 83, of Hearne died Sept. 22, 2001. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Phillips Episcopal Church in Hearne with burial at Norwood Cemetery under the direction of Heartfield Funeral Home in Hearne. A native of Kirbyville, he was a construction supervisor for several pipeline companies and a World War II U.S. Navy veteran. He worked as a telegraph and telephone lineman for Texas Pipeline Co. and was owner and manager of Brazos Contractors Inc. Survivors include his wife, Juanita Beard Hawthorne of Hearne; sons, Ray A. Hawthorne of Franklin, Tenn., and William E. "Billy" Hawthorne of Colmesneil; daughter, Mary E. Dobbs of Anchorage, Alaska; brother, Lenox Hawthorne of Silsbee; sisters, Wynona Lumpkin of Spring; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

      RITES SET FOR HAWTHORNES

      Joint Services for Kirbyville Residents Slated For Today

      KIRBYVILLE Kirbyville woman died about 3:15 p.m. Monday of a heart attack as funeral directors were preparing to take her husband?s body to a cemetery for burial. Mrs. Mineola Turner Hawthorne, 62 (72), was stricken at the family home just before the body of her husband, Walter Hawthorne, 75, was to be placed in the hearse. An attending physician said she suffered a heart attack.

      Dies in Hospital
      Hawthorne died Sunday morning, September 7, 1965 in a Houston hospital. Joint funeral services for Mr. and Mrs. Hawthorne will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Zion Hill Cemetery north of Kirbyville on U.S. 96. Elmo Withers, elder in the Primitive Baptist Church, will officiate. The E.E. Stringer Funeral Home of Kirbyville will direct the services.

      List Survivors
      Mrs. Hawthorne was born in Magnolia Springs and was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church of which her husband was an elder. Survivors of the couple are four sons, Frank Hawthorne of Houston, Walter Hawthorne of Hearne and Lenox and Donald Hawthorne, both of Silsbee, and two daughters, Mrs. Selma Fairchild of Kirbyville and Mrs. Winona Lumpkin of Port Arthur. Mrs. Hawthorne is survived by one brother, Albert Turner of Jasper, and two sisters, Mrs. Ludie Hawthorne of Roganville, Mrs. Mittie Hawthorne of Kirbyville. Hawthorne is survived by five sisters and four brothers.
