    • Velma Mae Bennett, age 89, of York, longtime Waco resident, died Saturday, March 22, 2003 at York. She was born September 28, 1913 near Everton, MO to David L. and Ethel B. (Van Hooser) Hall. She was a 1932 graduate of Waco High School and a member of the Waco United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She was married to Loren Bennett at York on May 17, 1935 and he died in September of 1968. Velma was a cook at the Waco School for over 14 years and also had been a cook at the First National Bank in York for 5 years.

      She is survived by her daughter Jayne and husband Terry Briley of Walton, NE; two granddaughters; Michelle Burgess and finace David Baxter of Littleton, CO and Lori and husband Mike Persinger of Lafayette, CO. Also surviving are her two brothers; Roy and wife Louise Hall of Exeter, NE and Dale and wife Ann Hall of Milford, NE; 3 sisters-in-laws; Bernice and Florence Hall both of Exeter, NE and Lucille Hall of Sun City, AZ.
      Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, 4 brothers; Evan, Lloyd (and his wife Dorothy), Howard and Ray Hall; her sister Mabel (and her husband Tommy)Byrum; her nephew Don Hall.

      Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at the Waco United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ralph Ford. Burial will be in the Waco Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family. Visitation will begin 5 p.m. Monday and family will greet friends on Tuesday evening from 7-8 p.m. at the Mortuary.
