  Notes	Gene P. Smith, 68 of Lincoln, passed away November 23, 2022. Gene was born on August 17, 1954 in Crete, Nebraska to Billie and Virgie (Havel) Smith. He grew up in Lincoln where he graduated from East High in 1972. He was active in sports during high school, playing football, basketball, and baseball. Gene worked in the tire industry for 50 years, retiring in April of this year. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, bowling, playing softball and horses. He was a coach to his kids in both sports and life. In recent years, Gene loved watching his grandchildren as they started competing in their sporting events. Gene is survived by his wife Jane and their children Kyle (wife Sara) Smith of Beverly Hills, MI, Scott (wife Katie) Smith of Lincoln and Stacy (husband Tyler) Stahly of Hickman; five grandchildren: Addison Smith, Jackson Smith, Wyatt Smith, Benny Smith and Savannah Stahly; his mother Virgie of Lincoln and sister Barb (husband Mike) Honnerman (sic-actually is Honerman) of North Platte as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. He is preceded in death by his father Billie Smith and sister Sue Lockee. There will be a Memorial Service at 3:00 pm on Tuesday, November 29 at Sesostris Shrine Center, 1050 Saltillo Road.
