On 27 Sept 1906, Francis Fish, a resident of Stephens county, stated she was the widow of Joseph A. Fish, deceased, a Confederate soldier. She applied for a Confederate Pension at the age of 72, stating she had been a resident of Stephens County, Texas for the past 28 years, and was feeble from age. She listed their date of marriage as December 15, 1849 in Sabine County, Texas. She had remained unmarried since the death of Joseph Fish. She answered that he had served in "Wheats" Co Col Ford's Command of Infantry. Pension File Number 12626.

John W. Clark writes that "Leander Fish was a first cousin [first cousin, once removed] to John Henry Clark of Caddo County, Okla. Leander was the original land owner of Section 20, Township 6N, Range 8W, 160 acres, Drawn 28 Aug. 1901, Certificate no. 2318, El Reno Okla. This place was only about 2 miles east of his cousin's place, 14 miles SE of Chickasha, Okla. Leander and John Henry met in Chickasha, one day in 1901 after many years of seperation from East Texas. They visited often and helped each other with their livestock."

John W. Clark indicated, in error, that Leander was the only child of Joseph Fish and Frances Clark. They had at least eight children, and Leander was actually a grandchild, one of four children born to their eldest surviving son.
