His great-granddaughter, June Butchee, writes that James was a prohibition officer in the 1920's, and was killed in the line of duty.

Nacogdoches - Services for J.C. Chance, 82, of Nacogdoches, were held Tuesday, Feb. 24 in the Family Funeral Care Chapel with burial in the Fielder Cemetery.

Mr. Chance was born May 8, 1921 in San Augustine County the son of Maggie Mae (Sturrock) and James Eli Chance and died Friday, Feb 20 in a Nacogdoches nursing facility.

Mr. Chance graduated from Nacogdoches High School in 1939. He proudly served his country by serving three years in the United States Navy during World War II and he was honorably discharged on Nov. 15, 1945. He begun working for a major tire company in September 1947 and stayed with the tire industry as a truck tire salesman until 1999. He was born the second time on Jan. 12, 1969 when he became a Christian and a member of Garden Oaks Church of Christ. He continued serving the Lord throughout his life.

Mr. Chance was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Charlene Chance; grandson, Scott Gamel; and nine siblings.

Joyce Connilean Young, age 76 and a resident of Cleveland, Texas, passed away Friday, August 09, 2013. She was born November 13, 2013 in Rosevine, Texas to parents Connie and Emmie Baldree who preceded her in death along with her sister Roslyn McCauley; and her grandsons Craig Martin and Bryan Martin.

Joyce Young was blessed with grace, beauty, and strength. She lived life with a heart full of love. She loved gatherings with family and friends. She was kind and loving, tender hearted, and deeply devoted to her family. She was a devoted wife, tireless mother, grandmother, loving sister, and steadfast friend. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.

She leaves her memories to her loving husband of 53 years Travis Young; two sons Robert Martin and Howard Martin; two daughters Connie Edwards and Sandy Terry; grandchildren Chad Martin, Leslie Martin, Joshua King, Kelly Girouard, Katey Hart, Emmeline Foster, and Sarah Edwards; numerous great-grandchildren and many other family members and faithful friends throughout the years.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, August 17, 2013, 2:00 p.m. at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel, Cleveland, Texas.
