    Obituary: Mrs. W.A. Fullen Buried at Newton. Funeral services for Mrs. W.A. Fullen, step-mother of Otis Fullen, official of the Security State bank, Mrs. F.B. Kee, and W. B. Fullen, all of this city, were held in Newton Sunday afternoon. Interment was in Weaver cemetery near Fairmount. Surviving Mrs. Fullen besides the daughter with whom she made her home are a son, Harvey Sherrod of Newton and 10 stepchildren, the three here, Mrs. Ramsey Simmons, Mrs. Ramsey Smith, Mrs. J.B. Bobbitt, and J. Bertis Fullen, all of Newton, Mrs. Kelly Fogg of New Orleans and Mrs. Charles Atkins of El Paso.

    Annie Lou Simmons

    Annie Lou Simmons, age 86, of Newton died July 2, 2002 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont. She was born on July 14, 1915 in Milam, Texas and had lived in Newton for 76 years. Funeral services were held on Friday, July 5, 2002 at 2:00 pm at Smith Funeral Home in Newton. Burial followed at Old Union Cemetery in Newton County.

    She was preceded in death by her husband, Ramsey Tom Simmons; brothers Joe Fullen, Isaac Fullen and John Bertis Fullen and sisters, Pearlie Mae Fullen Bobbitt and Ollie Fay Fullen Smith.

    She is survived by her daughter, Doris Mitchell of DeRidder, La. and her 3 sons, John Lloyd Simmons of Buna, Paul Simmons of Newton and Jimmy Simmons of Newton; 11 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.

    John Bertis Fullen

    John Bertis Fullen, 84, of Newton died Saturday, February 9, 2002 in Silsbee.

    Fullen was a native of Milam and had lived in Newton several years. He was retired from Sun Oil Company and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

    Survivors: a son John B. Fullen, Jr. of Newton; four daughters, Annette Betz, Ruth Bell, and Winona Alice Roberts, all of Newton, and Nita Nolen of Silsbee; a sister Annie Lou Simmons of Newton; eight grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren.

    Funeral services were held Feb. 12 at Walter Smith Funeral Home chapel in Newton. Interment was at Gravel Hill Cemetery in Sabine County.

    Graveside rites for Selma Boyett Torrence, 72, of Hemphill were held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, at Weaver Cemetery in Newton County with Bro. Wendell Ferguson officiating. Arrangements were handled by Starr Funeral Home Inc. in Hemphill.

    She died Wednesday, Oct. 26, 1994, at Hemphill Care Center.

    Born Nov. 21, 1921 in Sabine County, she was a longtime resident of Beaumont before returning to Sabine County two years ago. She was a Baptist and retired homemaker.

    Survivors: a son Jerry L. Bragg of Beaumont; a sister, Loren B. Wood of Hemphill; a brother, Arbie W. Boyett of Hemphill; one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.

    Arbie Boyett
    Arbie Wesley Boyett, 77, of Route 2, Bronson, died early Tuesday, Jun 10, 2003, in Sabine County. Born Jan. 18, 1926, as a son of the late Hamp H. and Mittie (Weaver) Boyett, he was a longtime resident of Sabine County and retired as a plywood operator of Temple-Inland Forest Products in Pineland. Boyett was a member of the Rosevine Baptist Church. He is survived by a sister, Loren B. Wood of Sabine County; and nieces and nephews, Jerry BRAGG, Terry WOOD, Robin POWELL, Linda BOYETT, Robert BOYETT, and Kenneth BOYETT. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the chapel of Starr Funeral Home Inc. in Hemphill with Bro. Cliff Durham, pastor of Rosevine Baptist Church, officiating. Interment followed at Weaver Cemetery.

    Lorene was born in Hemphill on November 3, 1927 to Hamp Boyett and Mittie Weaver Boyett. She had lived in Beaumont where she attended Chenier Business College and earned her Associates Degree. She worked as a secretary/bookkeeper for Wood & Son Motors. She moved back to Sabine County 40 years ago and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hemphill.

    Over the years, she helped to organize fundraisers for Alzheimer's Foundation of America and she helped out by volunteering at Twin Lake's Nursing Home. She loved being outdoors and working in her yard and she loved to color her "paintings".

    Lorene was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Wesley Wood, Jr..

    She is survived by her longtime best friend and loving companion, Bill Long of Pendleton Harbor; son, Terry Wesley Wood and wife, Cindy, of Beaumont; daughter, Robin Powell and husband, Kelly, of Sour Lake; grandchildren, Tiffany Powell and fianc?', Jody Harrison, Jason Hale, Brent Powell and wife, Andrea, Eric Powell, Megan Zimmerman and husband, William, Wesley Wood and wife, Cyrah, and Dylan Wood; and great grandchildren, Isabella, Ellie, Tracen, Layla, Kahl, Brexley, River, and Rowan.

    Graveside services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 28, 2021 in Weaver Cemetery under the direction of Starr Funeral Home with Bro. Troy Richardson officiating.

    Her grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.

    Winona Alice Fullen Roberts, 62 of Newton died on May 28, 2010 at her residence. She was born on July 27, 1947 in Jasper, Texas and had lived in Newton for most of her life and was a nurse's aide.

    She is survived by her brother, John Fullen of Newton, and sisters, Nita Nolen of Silsbee, Texas, Annette Betz and Ruth Bell both of Newton.

    Funeral services will be held on Sunday, May 30, 2010 at 10am at Smith Funeral Home in Newton with burial to follow at Quicksand Cemetery in Newton County.

    She was predeceased by her parents, Bertis Fullen and Winona Rose Fullen.

    Visitation will be on Saturday, May 29 at the funeral home.
