    Virgie Speights writes that Pearl was born in a log cabin in Time, Texas, and attended school first at Time, where her Uncle Emmit Bennett taught, and later at the Bethel school in Isla, and her teacher there was Joe Mason. She was the oldest daughter in a family of 11 children. As the oldest daughter, she early took over the housekeeping and baby tending duties to free her busy mother for the unending tasks of making a living on a farm. She also helped her father with field work, milking, sugar canegriding, and syrup making.

Robert Cecil McDaniel wrote, in his autobiography, that she was his first teacher at the rural Six Mile School in 1921, and that she and her husband, Price, lived in Yellowpine at the time.

CAUSEY was the first full-time pastor of the Church of God in Burkeville, Newton County, Texas. He pastored their for several years before resigning in 1925, leaving the church in care of the Rev.
