    Obituary

    WILLIAM MAURICE JOOS,

100, of Independence, MO formerly of Cass City went to be at the right hand of God Sunday, October 23, 2011 in Northcare Hospice House, North Kansas City, MO. He was born July 18, 1911 in Cass City to Frederick William and Hattie (Muck) Joos. He married Eva Mae Sovey February 27, 1937. She died October 11, 1967. He later married Frances Diebel August 26, 1972 in Lapeer. She died June 9, 1995.

Maurice worked on the family farm with his Dad. He also worked for McClellan Creamery, the Nestles Plant in Cass City, Peters Sawmill, REA, Dr. Donahue Farms, and the Ford Garage. He retired from Bauer Candy Company after 27 years as a Salesman. Maurice's passions in life were serving the Lord and his church. He would brag to everyone who visited that he was a member of the Cass City United Methodist Church for 78 years and that he sang in the choir for 73 years. He sang in different men's choruses, quartets and trios and even sang on the radio in Detroit. Another passion of Maurice's was baseball. He loved the Detroit Tigers. He was able to see five games since he came to Independence, MO. This summer when Detroit came to play Kansas City he was able to get out to the ballpark and cheer for his Detroit team. When the Tigers would get the Kansas City Royals out he would clap his hands and have a big grin on his face. This may have been the first time he ever attended a major league game. He was amazed at the condition of the field. Maurice often boasted about his .350 batting average in high school. God had a plan for Maurice to watch his Detroit Tigers have a winning season and when they lost to the Texas Rangers his mission was over. The Lord wanted Maurice to play baseball for him now.

Maurice is survived by his sons: Richard (Connie) Joos of Independence, MO, Donald (JoEllen) Joos of Grand Rapids; 5 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 10 great great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Ted Diebel; sisters-in-law: Bob and Mary (Diebel) Dast, Jerry and Florence (Diebel) Decker, Lola Diebel; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by sisters: Lena Hanes and Helen Jezewski; great grandson, Ryan Joos.

Funeral service held 1:00 p.m. Friday, October 28, 2011 in Kranz Funeral Home, Cass City with Chuck Emmert of Duplain Church of Christ officiating. Interment will be in Elkland Township Cemetery. Memorials may be made to NorthCare Hospice, North Kansas City, MO. Maurice's family would like to give special thanks to NorthCare Hospice nurses who were so good and caring for him. Also a thank you to the friends that visited him: Gary Bernhardt, Bob and Joyce McArthur, Bob and Mary Dast. Family and friends may share memories, prayers and stories with the family at www.kranzfuneralhome.com.
