The Duncan Banner-Feb. 5, 1976 Mrs. Sarah Gentry Dies Wednesday Mrs. Sarah Frances Gentry, 88, Geneva Courts, died at 2:40 p.m. Wednesday in a local hospital after a brief illness. Service will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the First Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Bryan Halliburton, pastor, assisted by Rev. Quitman McCrory, pastor of the First United Methodist Church. Mrs. Gentry was born Nov. 26, 1887 in Courtney Flat, Okla. She had been a resident of Duncan for the past (25? 35? can't read) years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, the United Daughters of the Confederacy, the Red Bud Garden Club unit, the LL Club and the Joy Club. Her husband, Edgar J. Gentry died in 1967 in Duncan. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. John T. Callahan of 1327 Normandy Road; a son, W. T. Gentry of 1116 Elm; a grandson and a great-grandson. Burial will be in the Duncan Cemetery under direction of the Don Grantham Funeral Home. Bearers will be Erwin Kaltwasser, Clint Roberts, Merle Kincannon, Riley Coates, Warlick Wilkinson, J. W. Kincannon, Bill Pogue and Benny Wilson.

Edgar (son of William Miller Gentry and Mary "Molly" Evelyn Mounts) was born on 26 Dec 1882 in Decatur, Wise County, Texas; died on 5 Jan 1967 in Duncan, Stephens County, Oklahoma; was buried in Duncan, Stephens County, Oklahoma. Family/Spouse: Florence Jones. Florence was born between 1889 and 1891 in Stephens County, Indian Territory; died on 10 May 1976 in Stephens County, Oklahoma. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

William married Toy Thompson on 23 May 1931 in Gatlin, Stephens County, Oklahoma. Toy was born on 2 Mar 1913 in Stephens County, Oklahoma; died on 21 Jun 2006 in Duncan, Stephens County, Oklahoma. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

After marriage they lived in Ohio. They had no children. Moved back to Duncan on retirement.

Thelma's obituary from THE DUNCAN BANNER dated 11 June 1996 read:

Mary Thelma Gentry Callahan

Duncan resident Mary Thelma Gentry Callahan, 84, died Sunday, June 9, 1996, at home.

Service will be at 10 am Thursday in First United Methodist Church under the direction of Don Grantham Funeral home with the Rev. Phil Wahl and the Rev. Eldon Moelling officiating.

Mrs. Callahan was born January 13, 1912 in Duncan to the late Edgar and Sara (Kincannon) Gentry. She was married to the late John T. Callahan in 1934. She was a homemaker and a member of the First United Methodist Church. Survivors include a nephew, Charlie Gentry of Duncan; a grandnephew, Chris Gentry of Lawton; a grandniece, Tara Gentry of Duncan; and a sister-in-law, Toy Gentry of Duncan. She was preceded in death by a brother, W.T. Gentry.

Mary married John T. "Cal" Callahan in 1934. John was born on 18 Feb 1897 in Fort Smith, Sebastian County, Arkansas; died in Nov 1968 in Duncan, Stephens County, Oklahoma. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Don't know if you heard from Juanita or not, but if you have just ignore this. Juanita heard from a woman named Jo Jean 'Kincannon' Johnson of Lawton. Jo Jean is the daughter of Murl Kincannon of Duncan. Murl was supervisor of the truck shop at Halliburton, Glen said.

Now, Murl was the son of William Perry 'Bill' Kincannon and Florence Jones, and Florence was Star Jones' daughter and a half-sister to Ada Jones (Frank Gentry's wife). And William Perry 'Bill' Kincannon was a brother to Sarah Frances 'Fannie' Kincannon who married Edgar J. Gentry. That's two brother's married half-sisters. Right?

So tell me....if Fannie 'Kincannon' Gentry was a full-sister-in-law to Florence Jones and a half-sister-in-law to Florence's half-sister Ada Jones and then she married Edgar Gentry which made her Frank Gentry's full sister-in-law, doesn't that also make her a full sister-in-law to Ada 'Jones' Gentry? Half AND full sister-in-law? And what does that make their kids?

I love riddles and this one is about as bad as Glen's g-grandfather who was his half-brother's half-uncle. Believe it or not!

I've always wondered what relationship Murl Kincannon was to Fannie because he was a pallbearer in Edgar Gentry's funeral, and now I know. Or at least I think I know....nephew, right? ;-)
