    Earnest C. "Buddy" Felts

    Services for Earnest C. "Buddy" Felts, 88, of Hemphill were held at 10 am Tuesday, March 26, 2002 at the Starr Funeral Home chapel in Hemphill with Pastor Sherry Z. Crenshaw and Pastor Fred Raney officiating. Interment followed at Hemphill City Cemetery.

    Felts was born June 8, 1913 in Sabine County and died at 2 am Sunday March 24, 2002 in Hemphill.

    He was a lifelong resident of Sabine County and a member of the Free Methodist Church. He was a retired truck drive for J.O. Toole.

    Survivors: wife, Dorothy Felts of Hemphill; sons and daughters-in-law , Ronnie and Ona Felts of Hemphill, Larry and Frances Felts of Lufkin, and Davis and Connie Felts of Hemphill; daughters and son-in-law, Janie* and Jimmy Emiston of Tyler and Vickie Felts** of Hemphill; a brother, Davis D. "Shay" Felts of Hemphill; sister, Eula Wood of Hemphill; 15 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.

    In White & Toole's, "Sabine County Historical Sketches and Genealogical Records" c. 1972, Davis Felts was not listed as a son of Earnest and Dorothy. However, Earnest's obituary (above) lists "son and daughter-in-law Davis and Connie Felts of Hemphill."

    Excerpts from the obituary of Janie Felts Edmiston

    Carolyn Jane "Janie" Felts Edmiston, 60, of Flint moved from life on this earth to the joy of Heaven on Wednesday, July 21, 2004. Janie was born March 17, 1944 in Hemphill to E.C. "Buddy" and Dorothy Felts. She was the second of five children. She graduated from Hemphill High School where she was a majorette. She married the love of her life, Jim Edmiston, on Sept. 1, 1973. Together they moved to Flint in 1977 to continue to raise their blended family.

    Janie was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister.....exceptional quilter...gardener....diehard football fan...fisherwoman...Sunday School teacher for many years.....

    She was a spitfire with a zest for life that could not be squelched and fought pancreatic cancer with all her faith and will and might.

    Preceded in death by her father, E. C. "Buddy" Felts and a son, Tony Edmiston. Survivors, Jim Edmiston, sons Jimmy STRICKLAND, Jr., his wife Bobbie and children Justin and Robin DUCK; Marc Edmiston and children, Michael, Dustin, Alan, Brian and Blake; and a daughter, Anna BEAUDIN and children Justin and Samantha. Also....her mother, Dorothy Jean (Maund) Felts of Hemphill; and siblings, Ronnie Felts and wife Ona Lee of Hemphill; Larry Felts and wife Francis of Lufkin, Vickie Felts of Hemphill, and Dascom "Dave" Felts and wife Connie of Hemphill.

    Funeral services were held at County Line Baptist Church on FM 344 West, Lake Palestine....graveside rites at Hemphill City Cemetery. Starr Funeral Home, Inc., Hemphill, Directors.

    Rebecca "Becky" Lynn Felts


    Rebecca "Becky" Lynn Felts, 47, died at her home Saturday, Ma 28, 2011 after an illness.

    She was born in Port Arthur, to Ronnie and Ona Counts Felts. She had lived her life in Hemphill where she worked as a bookkeeper in the medical field. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hemphill.

    She is survived by her parents, Ronnie and Ona Felts of Hemphill; daughter, Amber Fowler Smith of Hemphill; son, Kenneth Lee Fowler, III of Milam; brother, Richard Felts of Hemphill; and sister, Angela Wood of Hemphill. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Kane, Carmen, Justis and Brayden.

    Memorial services were held Tuesday, May 31, in the Starr Funeral Home in Hemphill. Online condolences may be posted at www.starrfuneralhome.com.

    Sarah Elizabeth Felts

    Services for Sarah Elizabeth Felts, 17, of Hemphill were pending at press time. She died March 16, 2007 in a traffic accident in Nacogdoches County.

    Sarah Elizabeth Felts was born in Conroe on May 4, 1989 to Richard Dean Felts and Andrea Gregory Felts. She was a Senior at Hemphill High School, was a trumpet player and vice-president of Hemphill School Band and was a member of Camp Springs Baptist Church in Hemphill.

    She is survived by her parents, Richard and Andrea FELTS of Hemphill; maternal grandparents, Johnny Patrick GREGORY and Norma Dell GREGORY of Conroe; paternal grandparents, Ronnie and Ona Lee FELTS of Hemphill; paternal great-grandmother, Dorothy FELTS of Hemphill, and brother, Bradford David FELTS of Hemphill. Starr Funeral Home in Hemphill is in charge of arrangements.
