He was attached to Company B, 314 Supply Train, 89th Division. He was honorably discharged on June 12, 1919. After his discharge and marriage, James farmed in Milligan. (Milligan, p 329).

    Jimmie helped his parents on their farm, and also briefly worked at Kassik Milling. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force on March 1, 1951. He was assigned several bases, and also spent a year in Reykjavik, Iceland, where he was a powerman. He was discharged February 25, 1955, and moved to Belleville, Illinois, where he was employed by Union Electric and Power Company at Cahokia, Ilinois. He passed away while on the job.     Eleanor Emma Matthies (May 22, 1925 - November 28, 2011)

    Services for Eleanor will be Friday December 2, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at the Farmer & Son Funeral Home - Kotas Chapel in Milligan, Nebraska. Interment will be in the Ohiowa Public Cemetery. Visitation will begin Thursday at 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Chapel in Milligan. Memorials are in care of the family in lieu of flowers. Eleanor Emma Matthies was born on May 22, 1925 on a farm east of Geneva to Frank and Emma (Suda) Kassik. She passed away at the Fillmore County Hospital on November 28, 2011 at the age of 86 years, 6 months and 6 days.

    She graduated from Milligan High School in 1943 and then taught for a short time at area country schools. She married Louis H. Matthies Sr. on July 13, 1963 at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Ohiowa. He passed away in 1979. To this marriage 4 children were born. They lived on a farm east of Ohiowa.

    She moved to the Villa in Milligan and was currently living in the Exeter Care Center. She was a 44 year member of the American Legion Auxiliary and member of the Milligan and Geneva Senior Citizens. Eleanor cooked at area cafes until her retirement in 1990. She was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Emma Kassik, husband Louis Matthies Sr. and infant daughter Joy Marie. She is survived by her daughter, Lorie Pinkham and husband Scott of Minden, Louis (Butch) Matthies and wife Sherrie of Geneva and Robert (Bob) and wife Janet of Hastings; grandchildren Christopher, Joshua, Callie, Sophie and Ian Pinkham of Minden;Alexander and Catherine Matthies and Erick and Zackary Ackland of Geneva and Lauren and Andrew Matthies of Hastings; brothers Donald F. Kassik and wife Nori of Lawton Ok., Frank Kassik and wife Margaret and Robert Kassik and wife Marjorie all of Milligan.

    SFC (Retired) Donald Frank Kassik

    March 25, 1928 - January 26, 2013

    Funeral service for SFC (Retired) Donald Frank Kassik, 84, Lawton will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 29, 2013 in the Becker-Rabon Funeral Home Chapel.

    Sergeant Kassik passed away Saturday, January 26, 2013 in Lawton with his family by his side.
    Burial with full military honors will be in the Post Cemetery, Fort Sill.

    The family will greet friends from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm prior to the funeral at the funeral home.
    He was born March 25, 1928 in Geneva, Nebraska to Frank William Kassik Sr. and Emma Alice Suda. He grew up in Milligan, Nebraska and farmed from 1940 '96 1949, he then worked road construction up until he was drafted into the Army in 1951. He served in Japan twice, Vietnam twice, Germany and Korea. While on his first tour in Japan he met Nori Kobayashi, who worked for the 94th Engineer Maintenance Company, the two dated and eventually married on May 12, 1953 in Yokohama, Japan. On March 8, 1954 they welcomed a beautiful baby girl, Mary Jo. In 1957, while in Hanau, Germany, he completed and received his G.E.D. He retired September 1971 after 20 years of service.

    After his retirement he volunteered at Center for Creative Living and McMahon-Tomlinson Nursing Center. He loved gardening and working with his hands, he loved helping his wife Nori's widowed friends with carpentry, plumbing and whatever else they needed; his friends called him "Mr. Fix". He was a lifetime member of The Retired Enlisted Association, Disabled American Veterans Chapter 56, Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 751, Korean War Veterans Chapter 319, Veterans of Foreign Wars Chapter 5263, American Legion Post 29 and The 591st Engineer Maintenance Company. He received numerous awards including: A Certificate of Appreciation for Retirement from General Westmoreland and President Richard Nixon, The Army Commendation Medal for Meritorious Achievement in The Republic of Vietnam and The Bronze Star Medal for Meritorious Achievement in Ground Operations Against Hostile Forces.

    Survivors include his wife, Nori of the home; his daughter Mary Jo Kassik Fountain and granddaughter Rebekah E. Fountain of Huntsville, Alabama; two brothers, Frank (Margaret) William Kassik Jr. and Robert (Marjorie) Ray Kassik of Milligan, Nebraska, as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews in Nebraska. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Eleanor Matthies.

    Obituary for Frank W. Kassik Jr.

    Funeral Service for Frank will be 10:30 am Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Milligan, Nebraska with Father Steve Thomlison officiating.

    Rosary will be Monday evening at 7 pm at the Farmer & Son Funeral Home - Kotas Chapel.

    Public Visitation will begin Monday, May 4, from 1 pm until 7 pm.

    Interment will follow at the Bohemian National Cemetery. Memorials are directed to the family for later designation.

    Frank W. Kassik Jr. was born to Frank W. Kassik and Emma A. (Suda) Kassik on March 30, 1936 at Milligan, NE and passed away May 1, 2015 at the Fillmore County Hospital in Geneva, NE at the age of 79. He was one of 4 children.

    Frank attended all 12 years of school at the Milligan Public School and graduated with the class of 1954. He loved playing basketball,and he played in the school band. He went to work at the Kassik Milling Company. In 1957 he married Margaret Krejci at the St. Stephens Catholic Church in Exeter, NE. They made their home in Milligan, To this union 5 children were born, sons, Paul (Jeanie) Kassik, Perry (Judy) Kassik, daughters, Kathy (Tom) Gillmore, Karen (Dean) Filipi and Karla Kassik. 4 Grandchildren Kelly Filipi, Matt (Mindy) Filipi, Hilary Kassik & Tony (Ashley) Kassik. 5 Great Grandchildren Preston & Kinsley Waller, Addison & Gunnar Filipi & Saydee Kassik

    His greatest joy was playing with the Milligan Czech Brass Band for over 50 years.
    One of the things he always made time for was to watch his children's school events especially sporting events and played softball himself for over 20 years.
    Watching his son-in-laws football games with the highlight being the 2015 basketball tournament. He loved to garden and raise tomatoes which he always enjoyed giving to those in need or those who would just take them. He was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Milligan.

    Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Emma A. (Suda) Kassik, brother Don Kassik, & sister Eleanor (Kassik) Matthies.

    He is survived by wife of 57 years Margaret (Krejci) Kassik, children Kathy (Tom) Gillmore, Paul (Jeanie) Kassik, Karen (Dean) Filipi, Karla Kassik & Perry (Judy) Kassik. brother Bob (Margie) Kassik. sister-in-law Nori Kassik, 4 grandchildren & 5 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews

He attended Milligan Public School and graduated with the class of 1959, at which time he went to work with the Farmers Co-op. On January 13, 1964, he went into active duty with the army and spent time in Germany. He was discharged on January 14, 1966, and returned to the Farmers Co-op. He is now assistant manager.     A Funeral Service for Robert will be held on Wednesday, October 23, 2019, at the Milligan Auditorium at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Murry Johnston and Pastor Mark Schutt presiding.

    Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 22, 2019, at Farmer & Son Funeral Home - Kotas Chapel in Milligan, Nebraska from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with family present from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

    Military Graveside Services will be conducted at the Bohemian National Cemetery following the funeral service.

    Memorials are to be directed to the family to be designated at a later date.

    Robert Ray Kassik of Milligan passed away unexpectedly at Bryan East Hospital October 19, 2019 at the age of 78. He was born October 2, 1941 to Frank W. Sr. and Emma A. (Suda) Kassik on the Charvat farm a mile and a half west of Milligan.

    Robert attended Milligan Public School and graduated in 1959. He began work for Farmers Cooperative in Milligan on June 1, 1960. On January 13, 1964 he went into active duty with the army and spent time testing artillery in Germany. He was discharged January 14, 1966, returning to his job at Farmers Cooperative where he continued to serve the patrons. He began his career there in the grain and agronomy departments, driving the propane truck and then moving indoors as assistant manager and then eventually branch manager at Milligan. He was with Farmers Cooperative for 48 years until his retirement in September 2008.

    He married Marjorie Halama on March 7, 1975 at the Milligan United Methodist Church. To this union, two daughters were born: Karie Lynn and Stacey Jo.

    He lived his entire life in Milligan serving the community in many ways. He was on the Milligan School Board from 1983 to 1998 and served as secretary. Robert was a lifetime member of the H.S.S.K. American Legion Post 240 in Milligan. In November 2018 he was honored with receiving a Quilt of Valor.

    He was active over the years pitching for the Milligan men's softball team. He also enjoyed golfing but especially loved his bowling. Bob and Marge bowled with others on mixed leagues and he looked forward to bowling on Wednesday nights with the guys on the Kassik Milling bowling team. On December 29, 2000 he bowled a perfect 300 game at Friendly Lanes in Friend, believed to be the first in the alley's history. He also enjoyed playing poker especially at the annual Suda Christmas gathering the first Sunday in December. He was nicknamed "Vejce" (the Czech word for eggs) by his friends because following a night out with the guys he always told everyone to go to the Hilltop Caf? for "vejce." He enjoyed spending his spare time doing jigsaw puzzles and playing computer games.

    Bob and Marge enjoyed attending all of Ethan's school and church activities, basketball games, baseball games and 4-H events. Ethan and Grandpa were close referring to each other as "best buddy" while Ethan's classmates affectionately referred to Bob as "Grandpa Fedora." Bob and Marge also enjoyed babysitting and being able to spend much quality time with Carter and Alice. He was very proud of his three grandchildren.

    Everyone has always expressed how positive he was, never seeing him without a smile on his face and a friendly greeting or visit for all.

    Robert was preceded in death by his parents Frank W. Sr. and Emma A. (Suda) Kassik, sister and brother-in-law Eleanor and Louis Matthies; brothers Donald Kassik and Frank W. Kassik Jr.; father-in-law and mother-in-law Joseph and Evelyn Halama; infant niece Joy Matthies.

    Survivors include: his wife of 44 years, Marjorie of Milligan; daughter Karie Jobman of Beatrice; daughter and son-in-law Stacey and Jim Muff of Crete; grandsons Ethanael Jobman and Carter Muff; granddaughter Alice Muff; sister-in-laws Nori Kassik of Lawton, OK; sister-in-law Margaret Kassik of Milligan; cousin Richard (Judy) Kassik of Milligan; nieces Mary Jo Fountain of Lawton, OK, Kathy (Tom) Gillmore of Lincoln, Karen (Dean) Filipi of Milligan, Karla Kassik of Lincoln, Lorie Ann (Scott) Pinkham of Minden; nephews Paul (Jeannie) Kassik of Shickley, Perry (Judy) Kassik of Friend, Louis Matthies of Geneva, Robert (Janet) Matthies of Hastings; and by many cousins and friends.

    Notes:

    Henry helped his father farm until he was inducted in the Army on October 13, 1965. He trained at Fort Benning in Georgia and Fort Sill in Oklahoma. After serving in Germany for 18 months, he returned to Milligan. He died in an auto accident. (Milligan, p 329).

    After graduating from High School in 1965, Ralph served on a Naval Ship off the coast of Viet Nam. He returned home to farm after completing his tour of duty. He is a Milligan Fireman, on the Board of Directors of the Farmer's Co-Op, and plays in the Legion Brass Band (Milligan, p 331).
