    CHARLES MATEJKA

    Charles Matejka was born December 6, 1976 (sic), in Trtice, Czechoslovakia. He came to this country with his parents at the age of three years in 1879, and lived on a farm northeast of Milligan the rest of his life.

    March 28, 1910, he was united in marriage to Anna Vavra. This union was blessed with four daughters and one son.

    Mr. Matejka died at his home Saturday, July 3, 1943, after an illness of three months, at the age of 66 years, 6 months, and 28 days.

    He leaves to mourn his departure, his wife, Anna; daughters Mrs. Mollie Nun, Georgia, Helen, and Rose' and son Alfred, one granddaughter, a sister, Mrs. Antonie Bulin; three brothers, Anton, Emil, and Frank; and a host of other relatives and friends. His parents, two sisters, and two brothers preceded him in death.

    He was a kind and loving husband and father, whose friendly qualities will also be remembered by his many friends and neighbors.

    Georgia Elizabeth Pracheil was born on Dec. 14, 1912 at the family farm home north of Milligan. She was the second of five children born to Charles and Anna (Vavra) Matejka. She passed away Feb. 20, 2000 at the Seward Memorial Hospital at the age of 87 years, 2 months, 6 days.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Anna Matejka; husband, Fred Pracheil; sisters, Rose Matejka and Helene Romero, both of California.

    Surviving are daughters, Elaine and husband Merlyn Nielsen of Seward and Maureen and husband Rodney Nielsen of Springfield; four grandchildren and one great grandchild; sister, Mollie Nun of Lincoln and brother and sister-in-law, Alfred and Joy Matejka of Milligan.

    Georgia's childhood memories in included attending country school Districts No. 6 and No. 85 near her home. She often reminisced about the happy times of her growing-up years in that busy family on the farm.

    On March 19, 1945, Georgia married Fred Pracheil who preceded her in death in 1981. Fred and Georgia farmed south of Exeter for 36 years, sharing the work and the joys of their life together. She devoted her life to her home and family as a caring mother to daughters, Elaine and Maureen and later was a special grandmother to Clay, Jill, Erin and Brian and most recently to her great grandson Corey.

    When her daughters were growing up, Georgia was active in 4-H leadership, particularly enjoying passing her sewing skills along to her girls. She also devoted many hours to her gardening, especially enjoying her flowers. Throughout her life she was always busy "with needle in her hand" working on many lovely sewing, quilting, embroidery and crocheting projects. Her talents along this line, created many special memories for her family and friends.

    Funeral services were held, Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2000 at 1:30 p.m., from the Farmer Funeral Home in Exeter with Rev. Wanda W. Bennett officiating. Musical selections were "Going Home" in Czech and "His Eye is on the Sparrow."

    Casket bearers were Clayton Nielsen, Brian Nielsen, Robert Lee, Michael Pracheil, Galen Kuska, and Leonard Oldehoeft.
    Interment was in the Bohemian National Cemetery south of Milligan with Farmer Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
    Memorials are directed to the Exeter Methodist Church and Exeter Rescue Unit.

    Rose Matejka, daughter of the late Charles and Anna (Vavra) Matejka, was born on a farm northeast of Milligan, October 13, 1916, and passed away on February 7, 1979, at North Hollywood, California, at the age of 62 years, 3 months, and 25 days.

    She attended rural schools, district 6 in Fillmore county, and district 85 in Saline county.

    Rose graduated from the Milligan high school with the class of 1934. After graduating, she taught a rural school for one term. Later, she was employed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington D.C. for four years.

    On August 1, 1947, Rose began working as a finger print technician for the Los Angeles Police Department. Her outstanding work effort in "Records and Identification Division" resulted in being rated in a superior category for many years. She was a very reliable employee, with over 31 years of dedicated service to the department.

    She is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Herman (Mollie) Nun, Mrs. Fred (Georgia) Precheil, Mrs. Helene Romero, and one brother, Alfred. Also two brothers-in-law, Herman Nun, and Fred Precheil, a sister-in-law, Joy Matejka, four nieces and their husbands, other relatives and friends.

    Alfred Charles Matejka was born to Charles Matejka and Anna Vavra Matejka on October 9, 1923, at Milligan, NE, and passed away June 26, 2013, at Ridgewood Care Center in Seward, Ne, at the age of 89 years, 8 months, and 17 days. He was one of 5 children in the family.

    Alfred was born, raised, and lived on the same farm Northeast of Milligan all his life, except for the past 5 1/2 years. After graduating from Milligan High School, in 1942, he started a lifetime career of farming the family farm. In 1984 Alfred was recipient of the Ak-Sar-Ben Pioneer Farm award given to families in Nebraska whose land has been owned by the same family 100 years or more.

    Alfred had a love for conversation and telling stories, especially topics such as family and community historic events, pioneer methods and life, and of course the "weather", a true farmer.

    Being a very kind and patient person he cared for his mother until she passed away on April 9, 1969.

    Alfred married Joy Weddle Eurich March 29,1971. In the 36 years of marriage, Alfred and Joy enjoyed gardening, polka, and country music, travelling, family time, good food and most of all the company of each other.

    After Joy passed away in Nov., 2007, Alfred moved to assisted care at the Green House in Seward. Oct 2012 he moved to Ridgewood Care Center, as his health was declining. June 20, 2013, Alfred started receiving Hospice care. During this time he was baptized into the Catholic faith.

    To know Alfred was to know his humor and good nature. He always had a smile on his face and a good word until the very end of his life. When asked how he was doing, the answer always was "like an old man'! Never, it seemed did he tire of being outdoors with nature and traveling the countryside looking at crops and the land.

    Alfred was preceded in death by his parents, wife Joy, sisters Mollie Nun, Georgia Pracheil, Helene Romero, and Rose Matejka. Stpeson John Eurich and Step-daughter Linda Hamelin.

    He is survived by nieces, Patrician and husband Robert Lee; Mary and husband Harlan Mettenbrink; Elaine and husband Merlyn Nielsen; and Maureen and Rodney Nielsen; Step-daughter Janet Hansen and companion Arthur C. Holdawy Jr.; and step-son Larry Eurich and wife Linda; and many nieces, nephews and step grandchildren.

    Patricia (Pat) R. Lee passed away peacefully from cancer on Sunday May 16, 2021 at Journey House at Tabitha in Lincoln, NE. She was born in Geneva, NE on August 17, 1941 to Mollie and Herman Nun. She grew up on a farm near Ohiowa and graduated from Ohiowa High School. She later attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Pat married Robert E. Lee on October 21, 1961 and of this union, three children were born, Julie (Pat) Ahern, Ridgway, CO, Doug (Sharon) Lee, Lincoln, Mike Lee Kersey, CO. To their family they added four grandchildren, Colton Lee, Cooper Ahern, Trumyne and Brightin Lee. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. She is survived by her children, grandchildren, sister Mary Mettenbrink (Harlan) Wimberley Tx and two nephews Eric and Pat Mettenbrink.

    Pat was a member of the Cathedral of Risen Christ Choir for 40 years and had the privilege to sing at St. Peters Basilica at the Vatican. She volunteered many hours to Catholic Social Services lunch program, Matt Talbot kitchen. She spent several years as a teacher's aid at Zeman Elementary and manager at Foot Loose and Fancy in downtown Lincoln. Her real passion was in gardening and landscaping. With this love she became a Master Gardener and devoted many hours to the Sunken Gardens and starting her own landscape and design company called Labor of Love. Her creative masterpieces can be seen in many yards in Lincoln, including her own.

    Pat was a fun and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She attended many of her grandchildren's events and supported them in all of their endeavors. Pat enjoyed music, singing, wine tasting and visiting family.

    Rosary Thursday 7:00 PM at Butherus, Maser & Love Funeral Home, 4040 A Street, Lincoln. Mass of Christian Burial Friday 10:00 AM at Cathedral of the Risen Christ, 3500 Sheridan Blvd., Lincoln.
