"...the first documented burial (at Fairmount Cemetery) was that of Eli Elijah Smith in 1874. He was a son of Edward and Mary Jane Smith...oral history states that Eli Elijah Smith was buried on family land that later became part of what is the present day Fairmont Cemetery. Loss of early records prevents substantiation, but it is believed that the initial parcel of property was donated by Edward CLARK."
