    Clint Smith

    L. C. "Clint" Smith, 71, of Hemphill died at 2:45 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 29, 1996, at his residence on Italy Road.

    Born March 14, 1924, in Sabine County as a son of the late Gus and Ola (Wright) Smith, he was a lifelong area resident. Smith was a Baptist and a mechanice at Coast to Coast.

    Suvivors: sisters, Gussie Bass of Hemphill, Evon Tappan of Diana, and Eva Jean Thain and Lauree Baker, both of Houston; brother, R. E. "Rob" Smith of Hemphill.

    He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Smith.

    Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the chapel of Starr Funeral Home Inc. in Hemphill with Bro. Wendell Ferguson officiating. Interment followed at Rosevine Cemetery in Rosevine.

    Robert Earl "Rob" Smith

    Robert Earl Smith, 82, of Hemphill died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008.

    He was born Aug. 11, 1926 in Sabine County to the late Ola Wright and Gus Smith. He had been a lifelong resident of Sabine County and was a retired County Commissioner of Precinct 1. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was a member of Little Fowler Masonic Lodge #305. Smith was of the Baptist faith.

    Survivors: sisters, Eva Thain of Houston, Evon Tappan of Hockley, and Lauree Baker of Cypress.

    Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 8 at Starr Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Eddie Ballard officiating. Interment followed at Fairmount Cemetery.

    Services under the direction of Starr Funeral Home in Hemphill.

    Larry Paul Smith, 71, of Nacogdoches, passed away on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 in Nacogdoches. He was born on December 1, 1946, in Sabine County, the son of Leroy and Sybil Smith. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at Laird Funeral Home with Deacon David Darby, celebrant. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm on Friday, April 6, 2018 at Laird Funeral Home. A Rosary will be held at 7:00pm, following visitation on Friday, April 7, 2018.

    Larry Paul was raised in Hemphill, where he graduated high school. During his younger years, he developed a love of fast cars and spent many hours working on and even racing them. His brother, Roy Glynn and his friends would certainly attest to his fast driving and occasional "scare" while riding with him. Soon after graduation, Larry proudly served his country in the U.S. Army in the Vietnam war period. During this time, he was decorated with many honors, including multiple citations, bars, and badges, as well as 4 bronze stars.
    Following his service to our country, he returned to East Texas and worked at Nibco and Lone Star. He was a hard-working man who humbly provided for his family. He also loved fishing, and later, developed an enjoyment of hunting.

    In 1980, he was introduced to a sweet lady, Wanda Ferguson. The two quickly developed a strong bond and were married in 1981. The have spent the last 37 years making wonderful memories as they lived their life.

    They have traveled to multiple locations, enjoying the time spent together, as well as with their children and grandchldren. "Pappaw", as the grands called him, was their biggest fan and he and "Memaw" supported them at all the sporting events they were a part of. Larry Paul also enjoyed mowing and working in the yard.

    He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Larry was also an active member in the Knights of Columbus. His fun-loving demeanor and vibrant smile is something that will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

    Mr. Smith is survived by his loving wife, Wanda Smith of Nacogdoches; sons, Larry Jason Smith of Nacogdoches and Eddie Marshall and his wife, Brenda of Nacogdoches; daughters, Marty Aparicio and husband, Eddie of Cushing and Sheila Steinsiek and husband, Scott of Houston; grandchildren, Jami Smith of Nacogdoches, Alex Aparicio and Tony Aparicio of Cushing, Courtney Issacs and husband, Ethan of Troup and Racheal Marshall of Nacogdoches; great-grandchildren, Braydon Sneed, Kaitlyn Sneed, and Journey Durrett; brother, Roy Glynn Smith and wife, JoAnne of Hemphill; sister, Virginia Langford and husband, Walter of Nacogdoches; niece, Jessica Ann Meeks and husband, Reese of Hemphill; and nephew, Roy Michael Smith and wife, Audra of Temple.

    He is preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Sybil Smith.

    Pallbearers will be his Knights of Columbus brothers.

    Honorary pallbearers will be Cristian Castro, Travis Rambin, Jamie Lockett, David Anthony, Rex Henson and Jaime Sifuemte.

    He was born May 31,1941, in Hemphill as a son of the late Edward and Arzell (Smith) Clark and had been a lifelong resident of Sabine County. Clark, a machinist with Temple-Inland, was a member of East Mayfield Baptist Church.

    Survivors: wife, Mable Clark; son, Charles Clark, Jr., of Hemphill; daughters, Charlene Clark of Katy and Sherri Lynn Jones and husband Bruce of the Plainview community; brothers, Tommy Clark and Willie Earl Clark, both of Hemphill, and Glen Dale Clark of Rosevine; a sister Carolyn Clark of Port Arthur; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

    Willie Earl Clark

    Willie Earl Clark, 67, died in the Colonial Pines Nursing Home Thursday, Jan. 6, 2011, in San Augustine after an illness.

    He was born in Hemphill to Edward and Arzell Smith Clark. He worked as a night watchmane for the Hemphill Independent School District.

    Clark is survived by sons, Lynn, Richard and Vince Clark, all of Hemphill, and Earl Wayne Clark of Abilene; daughters, Brenda Hargrove of Hemphill and Debbie Kennedy of Farmington, NM; brothers, Glen Dale Clark of Arkansas and Thomas Clark of Hemphill, and sister, Carolyn Clark of Port Arthur; 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

    Funeral services were held Sunday, Jan. 9, in the Starr Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in the Rosevine Cemetery, Rosevine.

    Thomas Harold "Tommy" Clark.

    Life on earth came to a close for Tommy Clark on July 16, 2022 at Woodland Heights Hospital, Lufkin, TX.

    Tommy was born on April 26, 1945, in Hemphill, TX, to Edward and Arzel Smith Clark. Tommy retired from Temple Inland and Sabine County Road and Bridge. He then served as a Sabine County Commissioner, Precinct 1, for 8 years. He also was a member of Littleton Fowler No. 305 AF & AM where he served a Worshipful Master. He was a member of Hemphill Order of the Eastern Star No. 375 serving as Worthy Patron.

    Tommy was preceded in death by three brothers: Willie Earl Clark, Joe Lynn Clark and Charles Edward Clark and a grandson: Jason Williams and a granddaughter: Ashley Nicole Ener. Tommy's memory will be cherished by his loving wife of 35 years, Patsy Clark.

    Tommy also leaves behind One daughter: Tammy Ener and her husband Nathan Ener of Hemphill, TX and three sons: Harold Clark and his wife Debi of Chiefland, FL, Wilton Steele Netterville, Jr. and his wife Johanna of Vidor, TX, and Rebel Wayne Netterville and his wife Lisa of Anahuac, TX.

    Seven grandchildren: Jeff Williams of St. Cloud, FL, Chelsea Ener of Carthage, TX, and Nathan Ryan Ener, NY. A brother, Glen Dale Clark of Childster, AK, and a sister, Carolyn Clark of Port Arthur, TX. Tommy also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

    Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 21, 2022 at Starr Funeral Home in Hemphill, Texas.

    Funeral services will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 22, 2022 at Starr Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Eddie Ballard and Bro. Floyd Wright officiating.

    Masonic Services will follow religious services in the chapel.

    Burial will follow services in Fairmount Cemetery with Jimmy McDaniel, Carlin McDaniel, Jerry Wayne Smith, Bruce Ladner, Shannon Cox and Eleazar Carranza serving as pallbearers. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be County Commissioners, Employees of Sabine County Road and Bridge and Littleton Fowler Lodge #305.

    He is survived by his step-mother Martha Smith of Hemphill, his sister Linda Beasley and husband Bobby Joe of Kilgore, his brother Artie Easley of Hemphill, aunt and uncle Theresa and Jerry Smith, aunt Evelyn McNaughten, nephew Craig Cooper, nieces Aulden and Kylar Easley, and cousins John and Jason Smith. Troy is preceded in death by his mother Gynger Foreman Smith and father Troy Smith.

    Debbie Sue Clark Kennedy

    Debbie Sue Kennedy, 50, died Sunday, July 1, 2012, in the San Juan Regional Medical Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

    Mrs. Kennedy was born in Hemphill, Texas, to Willie Earl and Linda Retherford Clark. She has lived in Farmington for four years moving there from Hemphill, and was a warehouse supervisor for Console Entergy.

    Debbie is survived by her husband Phillip Kennedy of Farmington, NM, mother Linda Funk of Hemphill, her sons Shannon Frick of Hemphill and James Brad Frick and his wife Raquel of McAllen, TX, six grandchildren, her brothers Richard Earl Clark and his wife Lisa, Vince Edward Clark and his wife Jamie, Calvin Lynn Clark and his wife Samantha all of Hemphill, and Earl Wayne Clark of Abilene.

    Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 10, in the Starr Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in the Rosevine Cemetery, Rosevine.
