1808 - David sold land in Warren Co; 1810 - David not show on Warren Co census. It's possible, but not likely, that he was the David in Surry Co., NC. That David and his wife were ages 26 to 45, a son under 10, a daughter under 10, and another daughter 10 to 16. Suggests that the family moved to Louisiana about 1812, and that David was killed enroute.

9. | Sterling McLemore (3.Hannah2, 1.Catherine1) was born about 1765 in North Carolina; died on 17 May 1814 in Fayette County, Kentucky. Notes:
James McKinney writes that Sterling paid taxes on 200 acres of land on Skaggs Creek as early as 1806, and may have been there earlier. McKinney also writes that in April 1805, William Bethuram (sic), a neighbor of Sterling's, married a Sarah McLemore. It is not known if this was Sterlings' youngest sister, Sally, or a daughter of Sterling's.
James McKinney adds that the land Sterling paid taxes on was on James Thompson's 4266 acre landgrant. Sterling did not have a deed to the property. In April 1807 James Kincaid bought the entire landgrant from Thompson's heirs. Sterling was present and was a witness, when the deed was made.
Paul Williams, noted, however that In a book dealing with Rockcastle (Kentucky) Pioneers it mentions a William Bethurum marrying a MARY McLemore in 1805 not Sarah/Sally---and that per another article dated 14 Oct 1987 "Family Research Manager" Loren C. Beougher of Raytown, MO cited "William Bethurum marriage to Mary McLemore 5 Apr 1805, Pulaski Co., KY"-- William is son of Benjamin -- Paul also noticed that one of the siblings of William & Mary [his name is Allen] also was shown as married to a McLemore.
Melba Gene McLemore shows that on the 1782 Surry County, NC Tax List he had no land, one horse, and a total taxable valuation of 6 pounds. She further indicated that the Feb. 1786 NC State Census for Surry County lists Sterlin, over 21, with a wife and two sons a two daughters. On February 25, 1787, he witnessed a deed for his father, in the Surry County Deed Book D:20. He is also indexed in the 1799 Deed Book G:113, Ephraim McLemore, deceased to Sterling McLemore.

Richard Gentry made claim for Revolutionary service under the 1832 law. He said he was born in Lunenburg Co.Va. Dec.27, 1755. He resided in Union District near the Tiger River in 1780 he served under Col.James Cotton in the battle of Cowpens and battle of King's Mountian. In Nov.17, 1842 Wright McClemore a resident of Lincoln Co.Ky. made an affadavit for Jenstin. He states "I lived about 4 miles from Gestin in Surry Co.N.C. He states do to the excessive rain he did not attend the wedding of Richard Gentry and Jestin but his neighbors did" He further states that Richard Gentry and his wife visited his father many times. "They had children in North Carolina and more after moving to Kentucky." He further states that his brother Gilliam made affadavit for Richard Gentry to receive his pension.
Richard Gentry's pension application is #4332
Revolutionary War Pension Applications, National Archives Microfilm. File W8844, (BLWt 26713-160-55): Richard GENTRY, widow Justina or Gestin, [also Justin, Justiney, Gestiney] of Rockcastle Co. KY. Credited with 13 months service as a private in SC militia.
Richard Gentry appeared in Rockcastle County court, KY, 12 Sep 1832, age 77 years as of next Dec. 27th [born 27 Dec 1755]. Testified that he had first volunteered for service in SC militia from Union District, SC, near the Tyger River [about 1780]... He gave his birthplace as Lunenburg Co. VA, and had lived three years in Lincoln Co. KY before moving to Rockcastle Co.
Gestin [Gentry] appeared in Rockcastle Co. court on 25 Nov 1839, age given as 70 years, to apply for widow benefits. She stated that she was married to Richard Gentry in the spring season of 1792 (she did not recall the month), and was married in [Surry Co., NC]. She stated that Richard died 13 Feb 1836.
Gestin appeared again on 23 Jun 1842, age given again as 70 years, to testify further as to Richard's war service. 18. | John McLemore (3.Hannah2, 1.Catherine1) was born between 1785 and 1790 in Surry County, North Carolina; died in in Kentucky. Notes:
John is shown by several researchers to have married Ruth Steelman. Ruth's dates are 1790-1850. A marraige date of 7 April 1810 in Surry County, North Carolina is shown. This should be verified.
Paul Williams excerpted information from a paper about the family of Ephraim McLemore written by James M. McKinney. McKinney indicated that there was a John McLemore on the 1811 Rockcastle Co. Tax list, but that there did not seem to be further reference to him in the Rockcastle records.
Douglas McLemore is working to prove he is descended from this line, as follows:

He is certain from himself up to Eliza McLemore showing her children including Hiram Greene in both 1860 in KY then IN in 1880. Census data also connects Hiram Greene McLemore to his great grand father Andrew Jackson McLemore in IN and then IL. In KY in 1850 Eliza is shown with her children (including Hiram) and also what is believed to be her mother-in-law Ruth (Steelman) McLemore. What seems to be missing is the husbands of both Eliza and Ruth (which Doug got from hearsay were both widowed). This makes it difficult to connect everything back to James and Abraham Macklamore.
He has also found deed records of the right time (1870s) in Salem, Washington County, Indiana to show both Nancy Ellen Heiffner and an Elizabeth Ellen McLemore buying property there. He suspects Elizabeth Ellen is synonomous with Eliza. He also found the wedding license for Nancy Ellen Heiffner and Hiram Greene McLemore, and has electric photos of all of these records including the plot map from 1878 showing N. McLemore on one of the plots.

19. | Sally McLemore (3.Hannah2, 1.Catherine1) was born between 1786 and 1791 in North Carolina; and died. Notes:
Could this be the Sally (Mary?) McLemore that married William Bethurum in 1805?
Several sources show "William Bethurum marriage to Mary McLemore 5 Apr 1805, Pulaski Co., KY", though in some sources the wifes name is shown as Sally. William Bethurum was said to be a neighbor of Sterling McLemore, Sally's eldest brother.

Fayetteville, Tennessee (Lincoln County)
Distressing Accident
Capt. Stirling C. M'LEMORE, of this county, was last evening dangerously wounded by the accidental discharge of a rifle. While sitting upon the fence with his gun upon his knees, it slipped, when on catching it suddenly and drawing the muzzle toward him it fired at half bent. The ball, we are informed by the surgeon, entered a little below the left breast, passed the cavity and lodged in the point of his left shoulder...He was living this morning, but his life is considered to be in imminent danger.

31. | Martha McLemore (9.Sterling3, 3.Hannah2, 1.Catherine1) was born between 1793 and 1795 in North Carolina; and died. Notes:
Melba Gene McLemore shows that she married James R. BROWN.
Foide Williams, in a post to the McLemore Family Genealogy Forum, writes that: "The 1820 census of Lincoln Co, Tn (pg 14) shows Sterling C. 32. | Hannah McLemore (9.Sterling3, 3.Hannah2, 1.Catherine1) was born between 1794 and 1800 in North Carolina. Notes:
Foide Williams, in a post to the McLemore Family Genealogy Forum, writes that: "The 1820 census of Lincoln Co, Tn (pg 14) shows Sterling C. McLemore and (pg 30) Signer Allen (who married Rebecca McLemore), Benjamin Wright (who married Hannah McLemore), James R. Brown (who married Martha McLemore), and Joel McLemore. These are all from Fayette Co, KY and apparently traveled together to Lincoln Co, TN."
http://www.jenforum.org/mclemore/messages/768.html
According to "Mt. Hermon Baptist Church, Lincoln County, Tennessee" by Betty Via, Hannah Wright was an 1833 constituting member, wife of Benjamin Wright; on the 1840 membership list; granted letter n.d; joined by letter, June, 1844; on 1852 membership list. A footnote after her name indicates that Hannah's maiden name appears to be McLemore, [but that] research still inconclusive.
Julia Molitz (jmolitz@cox.net), a member of the "Chesnut Ridge Cousins" genealogy study group indicated that she could not find Benjamin and Hannah any place on the 1850 or 1860 census, but did find a Benjamin and Mary H. WRIGHT on the 1850 TN Census and the same family on the 1860 Berry Co., MO census, but did not know if this family was the same one that lived in Lincoln County (now Moore County), Tennessee.
Julia further indicates that census records show that Benjamin and Hannah had about ten children, seven girls and three boys, but that the identity of all the children is not yet conclusive.
Citing the book "Mt. Hermon Baptist Church, Lincoln County, Tennessee" by Betty Via, she suspects that the "Mary [Wright] that was received by experience, September 1855; granted letter, August 1859 must have been a daughter of Benjamin and Hannah. Rebecca WRIGHT must have been a daughter of Benjamin and Hannah as well." The book itself notes that an Elizabeth Wright, on the 1852 church membership list, is also believed to have been one of the daughters of Benjamin and Hannah.
Hannah married Benjamin Wright on 19 Sep 1814 in Fayette County, Kentucky. Benjamin was born about 1794 in Lincoln County, Tennessee; died after 1840 in Lincoln County, Tennessee. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
Children:
- 60. James Wright was born about 1816 in Kentucky; died about 1855 in Mississippi.
- 61. William P. Wright was born after 1816 in Kentucky; died after 1860.
- 62. Joel Wright was born about 1818 in Tennessee; died about 1866 in Indiana.
- 63. Maybe Julia Ann Wright was born about 1834 in Tennessee; died after 1870 in Marian, Williamson County, Illinois.

33. | Probably Wright McLemore, Of Arkansas (9.Sterling3, 3.Hannah2, 1.Catherine1) was born about 1800 in North Carolina; died about 1849 in Jefferson County, Arkansas. Notes:
Melba Gene McLemore noted that in both the April 7, 1824 and July 5, 1826 issue of THE VILLAGE MESSENGER, published in Fayetteville, Lincoln County, Tennessee, a Wright McLEMORE was listed among those for whom dead letters were being held at the Fayetteville Post Office.
This makes him very likely a brother of Joel and Sterling McLemore, whose families were in Fayetteville, Tennessee during this same time frame.
More information can be found in the notes section of "Wright McLemore of Arkansas", born ca 1800, North Carolina.

34. | Rebecca Elizabeth McLemore (9.Sterling3, 3.Hannah2, 1.Catherine1) was born about 1802 in North Carolina; and died. Notes:
Melba Gene McLemore notes that she married Signer/Signor ALLEN. Foide Williams, in a post to the McLemore Family Genealogy Forum, writes that: "The 1820 census of Lincoln Co, Tn (pg 14) shows Sterling C.
