"He was raised around Rogersville, Ala. During the Confederate draft, he and others were held at a particular farm. All the prisoner "draftees" carried fodder from the barn to sleep on. Going upstairs, so the story goes, Mac threw his fodder down on the guard and headed for the Coldwater area. This is how the McLemores were supposedly established in Lincoln County. Beadie was very young when her mother died. She spent much of her youth in the households of various relatives, virtually as a servant. After her father died, she went to live with her Aunt Hattie McMillian. They lived on the right just as you enter the fairgrounds in Fayetteville. She had no real home of her own. Probably because of this, she became extremely serious, frugal and hard-working. She would work in the cotton fields with the men, then come home and prepare a large meal. She was an exceptionally good cook. She was a beautiful young woman, intelligent and hardworking. She went from nothing to having a home, family and money. Yet, because of childhood scars, she was never to feel secure and life was always a bleak place for her.

Funeral services for Mr. Leonard Childress, age 83, of Patrick Road, Fayetteville, TN, who passed away Sunday, March 20, 2005 in Crestwood Medical Center, were conducted Wednesday, March 23, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Gallant Funeral Home with Rev. Ennis Hyman officiating. Burial followed in Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Mr. Childress was a native of Lincoln County, TN, son of the late Wesley Childress and the late Biddie Putman Childress, a farmer and a member of the Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 57 years: Lorene Childress; 1 sister: Elizabeth Barnes; 1 brother: Jimmy Childress all of Fayetteville, TN and several nieces and nephews. Visitation with the family was held Tuesday evening from 5 until 8 p.m. at the Gallant Funeral Home.

Mr. Thomas Larry "Tommy" McLemore, age 63, of Griffin, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2007.

Mr. McLemore was born in Huntsville, Ala., on Aug. 19, 1944 to the late Brice McLemore, Jr., and the late Mary Elizabeth Parvin Durand. He was preceded in death by wife, Frances Sanderson McLemore.

Mr. McLemore was a retired Maintenance Superintendent with the Clayton County Water Authority and was a member of the Griffin Moose Lodge. He is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Chris and Sonia McLemore, Shannon and Kristy McLemore, Larry and Holly McLemore; grandchildren, Tyler McLemore, Sierra McLemore, Logan McLemore, Slade Bailey, Darian Adams, Alex McLemore and Lanie McLemore; sisters, Faye Smartt, Sharon Neal, Linda Johnson and Karen McNeal; father-in-law, John Sanderson; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mr. Thomas McLemore will be conducted on Wednesday, Oct. 17, at 1 p.m., in the Chapel of Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. The Rev. Thomas Powell and the Rev. Mark Davenport will officiate. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit the family Tuesday evening from 7-9 p.m., at the funeral home.
