A more detailed version of this obituary was in the Athens Alabama News Courier

A private graveside service for immediate family was conducted for Emogene Claire McLemore Barnes, 84, at 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, in Roselawn Cemetery with McConnell Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Barnes died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, at Madison Manor of Madison.

Emogene Barnes was born Aug 7,1928, in Limestone County to Homer and Alma Bates McLemore. She was a life-long resident of Limestone County and resided in the East Limestone community for approximately 74 years.

She attended East Limestone School and was a member of the graduating class of '46 at Tanner High School. After receiving her teacher's certificate from Florence State Teachers College, she taught school at Tanner and Copeland Schools for several years.

She married Charles R. Barnes in Iuka, Miss., and left the teaching profession after her first child was born to become a stay-at-home Mom and homemaker. In 1961, Mrs. Barnes became a full-time clerk in the Limestone County Tax Assessors Office where she was to later advance to the position of chief clerk for which she served for 20 years.

At the age of 53 she qualified and ran successfully for the position of Limestone County Tax Assessor. She served a term as tax assessor and retired in 1987.

She was as dedicated to Limestone County and its citizens, as she was devoted to her family. She could be called a people person because of her outgoing personality and love of people. Throughout her lifetime she was tagged with several distinct nicknames. However, her favorite nickname (a name shared by many) and the one she answered most frequently and lovingly to was the name her grandchildren and great-grandchildren called her, "Mee Maw." Mrs. Barnes was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 54 years, Charles R. Barnes; grandson, Lance Waddell; great-grandson, Morgan Hargrave; and her only sibling, Ila Dean McLemore Tribble.

    Pallbearers were grandsons and great-grandsons.

Special thanks to the staff of Madison Manor of Madison for the care they provided and the kindness shown to Mrs. Barnes and her family during her stay there.

  10. 19.  Iladean McLemore Descendancy chart to this point (4.Homer2, 1.Alvis1) was born on 10 May 1931 in Limestone County, Alabama; died on 21 Mar 2005 in Madison County, Alabama.

    Notes:

Thursday, The News Courier asked if anyone knew the identity of an attractive young woman in a recently unearthed photo.

Friday, family members called identifying the woman as Ila Dean McLemore Tribble.
The photo was among a stack of photos delivered to Doris Estes by Johnny Allfrey, which he discovered while sorting his late father's belongings.

Allfrey's father, Horace Allfrey, operated a photography business in Athens in the 1950s and 1960s.

Horace Allfrey processed and printed the photo, which is believed to have been shot by a member of a photography club that met in the basement of First United Methodist Church. Mrs. Tribble died five years ago this coming week, according to her granddaughter, Kristy Tribble. Another granddaughter, Mandi McCown of Decatur, also called to identify the woman in the photo.

According to Kristy Tribble, her grandmother was the daughter of Homer McLemore, who at one time served on the Limestone County Commission, and Alma McLemore, who taught school at East Limestone.

The women said that their grandmother did some modeling in her younger years, but they did not know of the existence of this photo.

The News Courier is happy to get this photo to its rightful owners.

    Mrs. Tribble Not Mrs. Presley

Athens, Ala (AP) Iladean Tribble, a widow with four children, was still single today after saying she would marry Elvis Presley during the weekend.

Mrs. Tribble said Sunday the wedding she had said would take place on Saturday didn't occur. When asked why not, she replied, "This is the sabbath day and I don't talk about things liek this on the Lord's day."

Throughout the weekend, Dr. George Nicholoupus, a frequent Presley spokesman, said reports of the wedding were not true. Mrs. Tribble had said Friday night "I am going to marry him" on Saturday.

When the alleged wedding day rolled around, the Athens Police Department estimated that about 150 persons milled around First Baptist Chruch here hoping to get a glimpse of the popular singer.
