Wynema McGrew writes that he was one of the few surviving old-time cowhands of the Waggoner Ranch, where he worked for 13 years as a chuck wagon cook. A colorful character, he was featured in newspaper and magazine articles about the passing of the West, including the Saturday Evening Post. He was a member of the Baptist Faith.

Joseph married Lola Belle Dunn in May 1910 in Seymour, Baylor County, Texas. Lola was born on 27 Feb 1894 in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama; died on 5 May 1972 in Seymour, Baylor County, Texas; was buried in Riverview Cemetery, Seymour, Baylor County, Texas. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
