Richard Aubrey McLemore was born June 6, 1903 in Perry County, Mississippi, the son of Hezekiah McLemore. Very early, Richard excelled in the field of education and rose to the rank of administrator in several schools. He married Nannie Pitts in 1927 and they had one son, Harry Kimbrell. In 1937, Mr. McLemore accepted a position with Judson College in Marion, Alabama. One year later, he was elected head of the Department of History at Mississipi State Teacher's College. In 1956, he was named curator of the History Department at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C. In 1957 Dr. Richard Aubrey McLemore left a position as professor of history and Dean of the University of Mississippi Southern to become President of Mississippi College. Dr. McLemore undertook a decentralization of top administration by setting up the positions of Dean of the College, Business Manager, and Dean of Students. Many libraries contain the definitive History of Mississippi written by Dr. McLemore. He died August 31, 1976 and is buried in Clinton, Mississippi (sic).

Harry Kimbrell McLemore, 88, of Madison, MS was called home to be with the Lord on June 08, 2017. Memorial service will be held Sunday, June 11, 2017. Visitation at 3:15 p.m. to be held at Madison United Methodist Church in Madison, MS, with a memorial service at 4:00. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to American Heart Association or Madison United Methodist Church.
Mr. McLemore was born on June 23, 1929 to the late Nannie Pitts McLemore & the late Dr. Richard Aubrey McLemore in Nashville, TN. He attended and graduated from Demonstration High School in Hattiesburg, MS. After high school Harry attended and graduated from University of Southern Mississippi with a master's degree in Economics. Harry served in the Army and served our country as a true patriot and was honorably discharged in October of 1959. He went on to become an Economic Developer. His hobbies included travel, scuba diving, and HAM radio. He also had a very interesting hobby in HAM radio using Morse Code. He was also proud of a wooden sailboat he once built. Harry was a good family man who would do anything for anyone ever in need. He leaves behind a legacy of courage, honor, patriotism and, faith.
