    Joe was born January 7, 1947, in Tyler, Texas to Lydia Edith (Gaar) and Dr. N.T. Bennett. He graduated from San Augustine High School where he played Athletics and was a all around Athlete. After graduation, he attended SFA. He served in the Navy during Vietnam. While serving in the Navy, he was a Aviation Fire Control Technician. In later years, He was the property manager of the local family farm. He loved his family, was musically inclined naturally playing his favorite, the guitar. He was a Independent Christian.

    He is survived by his Brother, Dr. Kenneth R. Bennett and his wife, Lucette of Jackson, Mississippi;

    George Bennett and his wife, Elsie Chase of San Augustine; Noel T. Bennett, Jr, and his wife, Vickie of Ft. Worth; and Schultz Bennett, Phd; Sisters, Gaar Bennett of San Augustine and Annella Nelson and her husband, Brad of Bossier City, Louisiana; Aunt, Cam Gaar of Dallas; Special Mother, Doris Swindle of San Augustine; and Special Friend, Edward Wilson of San Augustine; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

    He is preceded in death by his parents, Lydia Edith (Gaar) Bennett and Dr. N.T. Bennett; Brother, John Michael Bennett, and Step-Mother, Eloise A. Bennett.

    Funeral Services will be held Saturday, June 18, 2016, at 11 a.m. in the Wyman Roberts Memorial Chapel with Bro. Gerald Sowell officiating. Interment will be in the Liberty Hill Memorial Gardens in San Augustine, County, Texas. Visitation will be Friday, June 17, 2016, from the hours of 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Wyman Roberts Funeral Home, 316 West Columbia Street, San Augustine, Texas
