    Notes:

    Frank and his brothers ran a threshing outfit in Nebraska.

    Frank was drafted early in World War I. He trained in Camp Funston, Kansas. While in training, he was visited by his brothers, Vaclav and Joe, Frank SOUKUP, Frank, Joe and Emil SVEC, Joe BERNASEK and Charles KRUPICKA. He trained with Company M, 355 Infantry. He was briefly home, due the serious illness of his mother, prior to his transfer to Camp Merritt, New Jersey. He was sent overseas on April 3, 1918. At that time he was transferred to the First Company, 4th Infantry Battalion. In April, 1918, he was transferred to Company C, 128 Infantry. He was wounded near Cierges, France, and wrote his parents from the hospital. He was killed in action a few months later in the Soisson Sector of France. He was buried near Verdun. His parents paid to have his body returned home so he could be buried in Nebraska. Services were held for him in 1921 at the Catholic Church in Milligan, with the American Legion conducting services at the gravesite. Pallbearers were Bohumil KOTTAS, Harry PETRASEK, James SMITH, Fred KOLAR, Anton ELZNIC and William BARTU. Honorary pallbearers were Ada STECH, Agnes KOTAS, Agnes NADHERNY, Agnes SMITH, Mayme KOCA and Mayme ROHLA. The firing squad consisted of Ed CHUDLY, Rudolph SPOUSTA, Ed BREJCHA, Frank BERNASEK, James KASSIK, John KOTAS, Ed LAUN and James LUZUM. Joseph KLIMA and Adolph KOTAS conducted the services. Joe BORS, commander of the local post, had charge of the firing squad. (Milligan, p 337).

    Jimmy grew up on a farm, but rode the school bus to Milligan, making him a "town kid." He was active with sports, music and 4-H while in school. During World War II, he served in the Second Engineer Batallion, Second Marine Division from Saipan to the Occupation of Japan, landing at Nagasaki and the across to Kyuski Island. He was called, as a Marine reservist, to active duty during the Korean conflict. He was stationed at Cherry Point, North Carolina. After his discharge, James and Mamye made Alexandria their home. Jim worked for the Bureau of Public Roads as a soil engineer. As of 1988, he was a research highway engineer for the U.S. Department of Transportation (Milligan, p 339).

    Obituary for Angeline L. Brunkow

    Funeral service for Angeline will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 23, 2015 at the Farmer & Son Funeral Home - Kotas Chapel in Milligan, Nebraska. Interment will be in the Bohemian National Cemetery. Public visitation will begin Sunday 1 pm until 8 pm with family greeting friends from 6 to 8 at the Chapel in Milligan, NE. Memorials are directed to the family for later designation.

    Angeline Louise (Koca) Brunkow, daughter of Louis and Alice Koca, was born October 25, 1926 on a farm in Saline County, Section 19, Atlanta Precinct, southeast of Milligan. She passed away at the age of 88 years at Heritage Crossings in Geneva, Nebraska on March 19, 2015.

    Angel attended District #83 through 8th grade. For the next four years she attended Milligan Public Schools, graduating as Class Valedictorian with the class of 1943. She continued her education at Lincoln School of Commerce. She worked for the U.S. Service Commission at Bruning and Fairmont Airbases, the Civil Service for the Veterans' Administration, Milligan Public Schools and Geneva Heritage. Angel married Claremont Brunkow in 1951. She loved music and loved to dance. She had a love for animals and the outdoors and spent a lot of hours gardening and caring for her flowers and trees.

    Angeline was preceded in death by her husband, Claremont Brunkow, parents, Louis and Alice Koca, sister, Dorothy Bunker and brother-in-law, James Bunker.

    She is survived by two sons, Lucian Brunkow, Keith and daughter-in-law Becky Brunkow, daughter, Lucinda Brunkow, grandchildren, Kyle Brunkow, Hillary and Richard Liddy, Evan and Julie Brunkow, Kendra Brunkow, great grandchildren, Colton and Hunter Brunkow, Kallie Clark, William Liddy, and Evan Michael Brunkow, Jr., and many nieces and nephews.

    Survivors: Wife, Evelyn of Tobias; Step-sons, Larry Fitzgibbon of Scottsbluff, Neb., Gary Fitzgibbon of Ohiowa, Neb.; Step Daughter, Cheri Svec of Milligan, Neb.; Sister, Emily Dunn of Lincoln; three Step Grandchildren; seven Step Great Grandchildren.

    No Services. Burial of ashes at a later date at the Tobias Cemetery. Farmer & Sons Funeral Home.

    John F. Dlouhy, Lincoln

    John F. Dlouhy, 75, died Wednesday (6/8/05) in Lincoln. Born (1/5/30) in Tobias to Adolph J. and Mary F. (Koca) Dlouhy. Retired welder. Member: Faith Lutheran Church. John was a very active member and volunteer at church and Meals on Wheels, was a blood donor and enjoyed gardening. He was employed with Lincoln Steel for 31 years and National Crane for 8 years. U.S. Navy Veteran of the Korean War.

    Survivors: wife, Helen (Wambolt) Dlouhy, Lincoln; sons, daughters-in-law, David J. and Ana Dlouhy, Katy, Texas, Ted M. and Connie Dlouhy, Omaha; daughter, son-in-law, Beverly J. Dlouhy, Ashley and James Ashley, Lincoln; grandson, Luis Dlouhy; brother, sister-in-law, Adolph and Evelyn Dlouhy, Tobias; sister, brother-in-law, Emilye and Ron Dunn, Lincoln; nieces, nephews, cousins. Preceded in death by: parents; daughter, Kathryn Ann Dlouhy.

    Notes:

    A 1943 graduate of Milligan High School, she worked in many farm homes and also as a clerk-typist with the Quartermaster Corps at the Fairmont Army Air Base. (Milligan, p 313).

    She continued to farm after Merlin entered the Exeter Care Center in 1989, where he passed away in 1992. When Rose Maried turned 65, she retired from farming. She was the volunteer librarian for the Nebraska State Genealogical Society for twenty years, and complied twenty-two publications for them. She also organized the Fillmore County Genealogical Society. Other memberships include the Milligan Fraternal Lodge #76 and the HSSK American Legion Auxiliary Unit.

    Notes:

    Joe attended rural school, graduating from Milligan High School in 1946. He served in the U.S. Army from July 1951 through July 1953. After his basic training in Camp Gordon, Georgia he was stationed in Korea as a Military Policeman, where he was responsible for transporting prisoners of war. After his discharge, he returned to Saline County, Nebraska to farm. He moved back to the Kotas family farm, making his home with his parents, after his father retired. Along with farming, he is a hog feeder and breeder, a member of the American Legion and Cornhuskers Lodge, along with serving on the board of the Milligan Auditorium and Ceski Brati cemetery.     There will be no visitation as Dorian's wishes were to be cremated.

    Military Graveside Services will be held following the Memorial Service at the Bohemian National Cemetery in Milligan, Nebraska with the Milligan American Legion - HSSK Post 240 conducting the military honors.

    Memorials are to be directed to the family for a later designation.

    Dorian James Bunker was born to James A. Bunker and Dorothy R. (Koca) Bunker on September 16,

    1949, in Lincoln, Nebraska and passed away on October 1, 2017, at Homestead Nursing Home, Lincoln, Nebraska, at the age of 68 years, 15 days. He was the second of three children.

    During high school, he was very involved in sports and music and excelled in both. He was active in 4-H and was selected as Adams County 4-H King in 1969.

    Dorian attended Central Nebraska Technical College in Hastings from 1967 through 1969, graduating with an Associates Degree in food service. He was drafted into the Army on September 9, 1969 and was sent to Germany where he served as a General's Enlisted Aide for two years. He was discharged on January 29, 1971.

    On February 5, 1972 he was married to Victoria S. Johnson in Hastings, Nebraska. From that union two children were born, Adam J. Bunker and Dori A. Bunker. Dorian was employed by PFM (Professional Food Service Management) that contracted with colleges and universities to manage their food service programs. Beginning in 1972, they lived and worked in Sioux Falls, S.D., fed Boy Scouts in Michigan, then transferred to Pepperdine University in Malibu, California, and then to California Institute of the Arts. In 1975 they moved to Northglenn, Colorado where he fed college students at the Colorado School of Mines.

    On January 1, 1977, the family moved to Milligan, Nebraska, and he helped his father and mother run Bunker's Inn & Lounge purchasing the business in 1985. While in Milligan, he was on a bowling league and he also spent many hours fishing and even participated in several out of state fishing tournaments.

    Dorian divorced in 1993 and in 1996 married Constance (Hubl) Jarosik. Dorian and Connie made their home in Aurora, Nebraska. He continued in the food service industry until his retirement.

    He enjoyed spending time with his step-grandson, Cameron, whom he taught to bowl, and with Cameron's dog "Lucky". He was a member of the American Legion H.S.S.K. Post #240, Milligan.

    He is survived by his wife Connie Bunker of Aurora; children Adam J. Bunker and wife, Katie, of Lincoln, Dori Ann Bunker of Omaha and her significant other Steve Stimple of Grand Island; sister Letitia Naprstek, and her husband Dale of Ord; step-children Ed Jarosik and spouse, Tanya Henrichs and spouse, Tiffany Jarosik, Jennifer Jarosik and Darren Jarosik and spouse; step-grandchildren, Cameron, Rachel, Micah, Dakota, Logan, Mya and Raelyn; one niece and one nephew; first cousins and all of his "Bunker" relatives from Missouri.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, baby brother Delwyn, and one stepson, Luke Jarosik.

    Notes:

    A 1967 graduate of Exeter High School, he attended the University of Nebraska for a year and a half, entering the U.S. Army in July 1969, and being sent to Viet Nam in December. He received a hardship discharge in October 1970 after his father suffered a heart attack and needed him to take over the family business. (Milligan, p 314).

    He lives in York, working for many years as a parts person at Stahling Trucking. His life companion now is Janelle Givens, a divorcee, who had served with the military in Viet Nam. (Milligan, 1988-2008, p. 177).

    Kenneth L. Hulse, age 71 of York, died Friday, May 29, 2020 at York

    He was born on Dec. 21, 1948 to Merlin and Rose Marie (Kotas) Hulse at Friend. Kenn served his country as a member of the United States Army from July 22, 1969 to Oct. 14, 1970.

    Kenn was a retired assistant parts manager at Sahling Kenworth in York. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Kenn loved to play golf and was a member of the York Country Club. He also enjoyed gardening and sharing his produce with family and friends.

    Kenn is survived by Jan Givens of York; daughters, Jennifer (Stephen Stromberg) Martin of Phoenix, Ariz. and Laura (Steve Simon) Tanner of Phoenix, Ariz.; Jan's children: Maegan (Jared Hatra) Lamprecht of Wahoo and Joshua (Penny) Givens of York; grandchildren: Soren, Ashleigh, Avery, Rees, Zain, Zac, Lexi, Cooper, Bailey, and Liam; and his sister Karolyn (Jerry) Andrews of Wichita, Kan.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, and Jan's daughter, Holly Givens.

    Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday June 3, 2020 at the First United Methodist Church in York with the Reverend Tony Dawson officiating. COVID 19 Funeral Guidelines will be implemented with limited spaced seating and masks encouraged. Military Honors will be performed at the church.

    Visitation will be on Tuesday from 1 ? 8 p.m. at the mortuary with masks encouraged.

    Kenn's service will also be webcasted live on Metz Mortuary's Facebook page.

    Kenn has chosen to donate his body to the Nebraska Anatomical Board for medical education and research following his funeral service.
