Alef May Seale
Alef May Seale, 100, of Hemphill died at 11:20 a.m. Saturday, May 24, 1997, at Hemphill Care Center.
She was born April 24, 1897, in Hemphill as a daughter of the late Fannie Rowena (White) and William Archibald Buckley and was a lifelong area resident. Mrs. Seale was a retired seamstress.
Survivors: six grandchildren, Hugh Byars of Nacogdoches, Stephen Simcoe and William Simcoe, both of Lufkin, Jane Sutherland of Newark, Texas, and Patty Cornwell and Vera Vess, both of Rhome, Texas; a sister, Clemence Erwin of Hemphill; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Hugh Marble, and a daughter, Maxine Cornwell.
Funeral services were held at s p.m. Monday at the chapel of Starr Funeral Home Inc. in Hemphill with Bro. Clarence Howell and Bro. Vance R. Purtell officiating. Interment followed at Hemphill City Cemetery.

Addie Bragg
Addie Bragg, 91, of Route 1, Hemphill, died Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003 at Hemphill Care Center. Mrs. Bragg was born Feb. 2, 1912, and had been a longtime resident of Sabine County. She was a homemaker and a member of the Assembly of God Church. Survivors: a son, Benny Bragg of Shelbyville; daughters, Julie HUFF and Paula BRITT, both of Sabine County; 14 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and 24 great-great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel of Starr Funeral Home Inc in Hemphill with Bro. Richard LUM officiating. Interment followed at Meador Cemetery in Milam.

Onie Mae Robbins
Onie Mae Robbins, 90, who lived on Barber Street in Hemphill, died at 10:45 Tuesday, April 11, 1995, at Hemphill Care Center.
Born Aug. 30, 1904, in Milam as a daughter of the late Walter and Mae (White) Patterson, she was a lifelong resident of Sabine County. Mrs. Robbins was a member of the First Baptist Church and a homemaker.
She is survived by a son, W. L. "Buster" Robbins of Hemphill. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Robbins.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday at the chapel of Starr Funeral Home Inc. in Hemphill with Bro. W. Clarence Howell officiating. Interment followed at Hemphill City Cemetery.
Pallbearers: Billy Cannon, Billy Speights, Bill Barcheers, Buford Hughes, Clement McDaniel, and Eugene Procella.

PORT NECHES ? Elynor Erwin Heath, 77, of Port Neches, Texas died Tuesday, September 03, 2013 at Summer Place Nursing Home in Beaumont, Texas.
Elynor was born December 16, 1935 in Hemphill, Texas to John Preston Erwin and Clemence Eloise Buckley Erwin. She was a resident of Port Neches for 46 years and a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Port Neches. Elynor was a Hospital Administrator at Beaumont Medical & Surgical Hospital (MASH) and retired from Christus Hospital St. Mary as Office Administrator.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, September 14, 2013 at 4:00 p.m. at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Port Neches with Reverend Cliff Rucker officiating.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, September 5, 2013 at Levingston Funeral Home in Port Neches.
Elynor was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas A. Heath.

Mary Faith Griffin (n?e Erwin), age 83, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 19, 2024, in Cedar Park, Texas. Born on November 18, 1940, in Hemphill, Texas, Faith was the cherished daughter of John Preston Erwin, Sr. and Clemence Eloise Buckley Erwin. To her family and close friends, Faith was lovingly known as "Toady."
A proud graduate of Hemphill High School, Faith played the clarinet in the school band. She furthered her education at Lamar University and built a successful career as an accountant. Known for her meticulous attention to detail and unwavering dedication, Faith earned the respect and admiration of both colleagues and clients.
Faith's greatest joy came from her role as a devoted mother to her children, Greg and Melissa. She spent her life caring for her son with special needs and nurturing her family. Her love extended deeply to her parents, siblings, nieces, nephews, and especially her grandchildren, Daniel and Grace. Faith found comfort and happiness in reading, sewing, and tending to her beloved pets.
She is survived by her son, Gregory Allan Griffin of Leander, Texas; her daughter, Melissa Lyn Griffin Dorr and her husband, Philip Daniel Dorr, Sr., of Austin, Texas; her brothers, John Preston Erwin, Jr. and his wife, Martha, of Temple, Texas, and William "Joe" Buckley Erwin of Hemphill, Texas; along with numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews who were dear to her. Faith also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Philip Daniel Dorr, Jr., and Grace Eloise Dorr.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Woody Baskin, her sister, Elynor Erwin Heath, her brother-in-law Doug Heath, and her sister-in-law Judy Erwin.
A memorial service to honor Faith's life will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at 12:00 PM at Starr Funeral Home Chapel, 510 Starr Street, Hemphill, Texas with Bro. Floyd Wright officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.

Billy Joe was born August 11, 1936, to Rex Carl White Sr. and Atrall Lilly Wright White. He was a lifetime resident of Sabine County, where he worked as a logger. He served in the Navy during the Korean Conflict.

R.C. White, Jr., 65, of Hemphill, died Monday, April 4, 2011, in his home after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Hemphill to R.C. and Atrall Wright White and had lived here all his life. White was a truck driver for propane gas and a member of the Pine Park United Pentecostal Church.
He is survived by his wife, Lois White of Hemphill; sons, Rex D. White and his wife Teresa of Hemphill and Ronald L. White and his wife Mae of Humble; daughter, Lisa M. Page and her husband Michael of Hemphill; brothers, Billy Jo White and Fred White, both of Hemphill; sisters, Frances Denby of Huntington, Mary Adams of Conroe, Betty McGown of Hemphill, Carolyn Erwin of Huntington, and Jane Hill of Hemphill. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Salena Williamson and husband Darrell, Carissa Ferguson and husband Bryan, Sean, Melissa, Sabrina and Logan; and great-grandchildren, Landen, Baylee and Jaeda.

Funeral services for Charlie White, 59, of San Augustine were held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 18, 2006 at Wyman Roberts Memorial Chapel in San Augustine. Burial followed at Meador Cemetery in Milam. Bro. Gordon Simmons officiated. He died November 17, 2006 in Lufkin.
Charlie White was born in Hemphill on October 19, 1947 to Rex White and Altrall WRIGHT White. He attended Rosevine United Pentacostal Church. He is survived by his sons, Chris WHITE and wife, Michelle of San Augustine and Stephen WHITE and wife, Kiley of Marthaville, Louisiana; sisters, Mary Lou ADAMS and husband, Leo of Conroe, Betty Ann McGOWN and husband, Pat of Pine Park (Sabine County), Jane HILL and husband, Ralph of Hemphill, Carla Joyce ERWIN and husband, Roy and Frances DENBY, all of Huntington; brothers, Billy Joe WHITE, R. A lifetime resident of Sabine County, Jane was a graduate of Hemphill High School. She dedicated her life to her family, embracing her role as a loving housewife, mother, and caregiver. Jane was the heart of her household, known for her nurturing spirit and the warm, welcoming home she maintained.
Jane married Ralph Hill, Sr., nearly 48 years ago, and together they built a life filled with love and laughter.

Era Mae Robbins Smith, 92, passed away peacefully on Aug. 8, 2014, at her home in Boerne surrounded by her loving family. She was born on March 3, 1922, in Hemphill to Era Inez Patterson Robbins and Henry Clyde Robbins, Sr.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her older brother, Henry Clyde "Sonny" Robbins, Jr.
Era Mae was orphaned at age 2 and spent her early years in three different households, lovingly cared for by her aunts. She was nicknamed "Sister" by her cousins, with whom she was raised as a sister, and was known throughout her childhood in East Texas by that name. In 1938, at the age of 16, she married her high school sweetheart, Hugh Love Smith, and they moved to Corpus Christi where they resided until they relocated to Boerne in 2010.
Era Mae's life was rich in activities surrounding her family, her friends, and her faith. She loved her Lord and Savior, and her every action bore witness to that love, the unselfish support for her husband, the leadership and tenacity in guiding the lives of her children as they grew, and the tender compassion she showed for others.
As a member of First Baptist Church of Corpus Christi, Era Mae participated and held leadership positions in numerous study, visitation, and outreach ministries. She served on the building committee for the church's chapel and on the leadership development committee. She was a licensed Real Estate Broker and member of the Corpus Christi Board of Realtors, an award-winning photographer, a talented seamstress, cook, decorator and dancer. She spent countless hours teaching her children how to be self-sufficient, and she enthusiastically supported their activities in church, school and scouting.
Era Mae is survived by her devoted husband of 76 years, Hugh Love Smith, Sr.; son, Hugh Love "Clipper" Smith, Jr. (Nona) of Vicksburg, MS; daughter, Sylvia Ann Smith Griffin (Paul) of Boerne; grandchildren, Stephen Randall Smith (Sherri) of Mathis, James Kelly Smith, Abney Gail Smith and Robin Dean Smith of Vicksburg, MS, Christopher Clark Griffin (Ashleigh) of Austin, and Cynthia Griffin Carr (Brian) of Pleasanton; plus eight great-grandchildren upon whom she loved to dote; cousins, Charlotte King Walker of Lufkin and Doris Jean Doiron of Pasadena, and numerous nieces, nephews and caring friends. She is also survived by the loving extended family of Peggy and Ronnie Schlottman of Center Point.

Mrs. Inez Sparks was born January 31, 1926 in Hemphill, Texas, to Bronson and Marie (Patterson) King. She entered into rest on March 30, 2011 in a Tyler Hospital.
She was retired from San Augustine ISD where she had worked for many years as a teachers aid. She was a member of the Bridge Club and a member of First United Methodist Church in San Augustine.
She is survived by her son H.B. Sparks and his wife Charlotte of Center; daughter Debra Adkins of Tenaha; grandchildren Ashley Golden and D.D., Hillary Sparks, Tanya Byley, Clifton Byley and Amanda, Winter Ogeda, Tiffany Anderson, Timothy; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters Charlotte Walker and Trent of Lufkin; sisters-in-law Betty Jean Cartwright, Frances Maxwell, Claudine Selden, Agnes Sparks; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by parents; husband Hugh Sparks.
Funeral services will be Sunday, April 3, 2011 at 3:00 P.M. in Wyman Roberts Memorial Chapel with Sara Barbaree and Bro. Jim Moss officiating and burial in Liberty Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday April 2, 2011 from 5:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. at Wyman Roberts Funeral Home.

Survivors: Son and daughter-in-law, Chuck and Patty Walker; Daughter and son-in- law, An and Jack Sweeny Granddaughters and husbands; Jennifer and Chris Hill; Sara and Charlie Hill; Great-grand children; Price, Walker, Lucy, Charlotte, Ella, and Preston Hill Sister-in-law Mary Francis Walker Sedwick; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Charlotte was preceded in death by her husband, Charles L. "Trent" Walker and her sister, Inez King Sparks.
Graveside services were held at 2:00PM, Sunday, October, 12, 2014, in the Hemphill Cemetery under the direction of Starr Funeral Home.

Could she have married Ben Smith Jr. and been the mother of Susan Paige Smith Padgett (dec 1947-Feb 2013).
Susan Paige Padgett, 65, died in Lufkin Memorial Hospital, February 9, 2013. She was born to Ben Smith Jr. and Charlotte King, December 12, 1947. Raised in Pineland she had lived in Lufkin for 37 years.
Susan was survived by her husband, Bryan Padgett, of Lufkin; her son, Kevin Woods of Bronson; her daughter, Kim Woods of Lufkin; one brother, Ben Smith of Jasper; one sister Libi Smith of Dallas; and three grandchildren, Aaron Woods, Sydney Woods, and Kelsey Woods.
She was preceded in death by her brother Terry Smith and her sister Cindy Smith.
Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM Sunday evening, February 10, 2013, in the Starr Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM, Monday, February 11, 2013, at Starr Funeral home Chapel, with gravesides services to follow at St. Augustine Cemetery in San Augustine Texas.
