    Reunion

    Hemphill High School's Class of 1953 held their Sixtieth class reunion on July 27, at Hemphill Garden Center. Attending were Douglas Butler, Maxie Poye, Eddie Toole, Buddy Pratt, Robert Davis, Shorty Denman, Shirley SMITH Williams. Ann Pratt Click, Shirley Procell Marsh, Shirley Wiltshire Stanton, Christine Vickers Lewing, Patsy Hogan Vrooman, Freddie Shooley Shauer, Carolyn Denman, Tina Butler, Reba Clark Barnett, Peggy Coussons Duke and Chris Lewing.

    Obituary

    Peggy Ann Coussons Duke, 85, of Hemphill, Texas passed away Sunday, November 28, 2021 at her residence.

    Peggy was born July 11, 1936 in Hemphill to Ersel and Novie Ada Pratt Coussons. She was a lifelong resident of Sabine County and a graduate of the Hemphill High School Class of 1954. She worked as a nurse's assistant for many years and was active in the First Baptist Church, including vacation bible school. She loved to work with the elderly. Peggy had a green thumb and was best known for the ferns on her front porch and she believed in the phrase "Gift of Hospitality, unconditional love and nurturing".

    She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell E. Duke and daughter, Myra Duke Clindaniel.

    She is survived by her daughters, Cindy Duke Cobia of Austin and Megan Russek and husband, Eric, of League City; sister-in-law, Lorraine Coussons of Nacogdoches; grandchildren, Cara Westbrook, Jacie Cobia, Ricky Cobia and wife, Courtney, Madalyn Russek, Josh Russek and Hannah Russek; and great grandchild, Alex Freeman.

    Graveside services will begin at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 30, 2021 in Hemphill Cemetery under the direction of Starr Funeral Home with Bro. Floyd Wright officiating.
