Wiliam Leroy McGown, a Sabine County native and former graduate of Hemphill High School, returned from a trip to Europe where he was a delegate to a worldwide Wynn's Oil Convention. The conference was held at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.

Ann McGown Brown

Anne McGown Brown, 90, of Houston died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2005. Mrs. Brown, a sixth generation Texan, was born Oct. 17, 1914, near Milam in Sabine County as a daughter of the late Emma (Cordray) and Houston Everett McGown. She attended Stephen F. Austin State University and taught in a one-room schoolhouse. She later moved to Beaumont where she lived for several years before moving to the Houston area in 1999. She was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church and Daughters of the Republic of Texas. Survivors: daughter, Diane CONNALLY and husband John B. CONNALLY, III, a son Ralph Lawrence BROWN III and wife Connie; three grandsons, and great-grandsons, all of Houston. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph L. BROWN, Jr.; brothers, Edward McGOWN and Leroy McGOWN; and sisters, Lucille HORNE and Dicy Faye DUPERIOR. Funeral services were held Jan. 12 at the First United Methodist Church of Beaumont. Interment followed at Magnolia Cemetery in Beaumont. Services were under the direction of George H. Lewis & Sons Funeral Home in Houston.

Tricia McNaughten Williams notes that she was also the mother of Glenda Sue, Barbara Gayle, and David Michael, all of who were adopted by her parents after she died in 1959.
