    He was inducted into the US Army in 1950, and served during the Korean conflict as part of a ski patrol based out of Alaska.

    He was the father of Mark Matejka of Denver and Mona Matejka (Mrs. James) Costalupes of Incline Village, Nevada, and grandfather of Vincent and Monique Matejka, Nicole, Christopher and Alexandria Costalupes. He also had two stepdaughters, Vicki Scruggs and Annette Bryson, six step grandchildren and six step great-grandchildren.
