    Funeral services for Jennie Pearl "Biddie" Mathews Monroe, 83, of Shelbyville, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 20 at Watson and Sons Chapel in Center with the Rev. Alan Van Hooser and the Rev. Scott Stewart officiating. Burial will follow in the Oaklawn Memorial Park in Center. Monroe died Friday, June 17 in Nacogdoches. Born May 1, 1922 in Shelby County, she was the daughter of Reece Mathews and Lydia Elizabeth Hagler Mathews. She owned and operated Monco Motor Company with her husband Clyde and was a member of Shelbyville United Methodist Church. She is preceded in death by her husband. Survivors include son Donald Monroe of Center; daughter Brenda Hubble of Shelbyville; brother C.J. Mathews of San Augustine; two grandchildren; and four grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Shelbyville United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Watson and Sons Funeral Home in Center. He moved to Pineland in 1950 from Kirbyville, Texas. Walter was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army, retired from Temple Inland, was a constable for JP precinct #2, and a deputy for Sabine County. He was a member of Jasper VFW 6380, Pineland Masonic Lodge 1166, Pineland VFD, and the First Baptist Church in Pineland.


    Walter is survived by his son Gary W. Smith and his wife Carol of Leander, TX, his daughters; Mary L. Smith of Pineland, Patsy Kilcrease and her husband Larry of Pineland, Jennifer Hardy and her husband Scott of Pineland, his brother Charles "Buddy" Smith of Center, TX, his sisters; Dovie Renfroe of Hawthorne, Mildred Scarborough of Lumberton, Lizzie Mae Braniff of San Antonio, Loretta Richards of Blan Lake, his grandchildren; Brad, Wes, Adam, Brett, and Reese, and eleven great grandchildren. Walter was preceded in death by his wife Maywood Smith.

    Visitation will be from 4:00PM until 8:00PM, Thursday, April 10, 2014, in the Starr Funeral Home Chapel, 510 Starr St., Hemphill, Texas. Funeral services will be at 10:00AM, Friday, April 11, 2014, in the Starr Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Antioch Cemetery, Blan Lake, Texas.

    Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Wanda Eckols of Georgetown, Texas; four grandchildren, Cyndye Hilliard and her husband Kenny of Nacogdoches, Texas, Cristy Prude and her husband Price of Magnolia, Texas, Ashley Adams of Houston, Texas, and Blake Eckols of Roanoak, Texas; seven great-grandchildren, Conner Sebesta, Randi Fletcher, Liam Hilliard, Addison Prude, Hudson Prude, Roman Blake Eckols, and Brooklynn Eckols; two sisters, Mildred Scarborough of Lumberton, Texas, and Loretta Richards of San Augustine, Texas.

    Mr. Charles Ray Smith, Sr., age 85, passed from this life, August 27, 2016, surrounded by his loving family, in Center, Texas.

    Charles was born to Ethel (Mathews) Smith and Nay W. Smith on March 12, 1931, in
    San Augustine, Texas. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.


    He was employed as a carpenter by The Dow Chemical Company from 1962 until his retirement in 1988. He also was a carpentry teacher at The Brazosport College in Lake Jackson, Texas from 1975 to 1988. Charles was a member of theNeuville Baptist Church in Neuville, Texas.

    He dearly loved his wife, kids, church, home & garden. All he did was for all of them.

    Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on August 30, 2016, in the Wyman Roberts Memorial Chapel with interment in the Antioch Cemetery in San Augustine, Texas. Officiating will be his nephew, Kenny Smith.

    Visitation will be August 29, 2016 from the hours of 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Wyman Roberts Funeral Home, 316 W. Columbia Street, San Augustine, Texas.

    Those who are left to cherish his memory are his wife, Margarette ("Tootie") Smith of Center, Texas; Daughters, Beverly and her husband Mike Thomas of Angleton, Texas, Kay Kopycinski of Danbury, Texas, Fay Smith of Angleton, Texas, Carol and her husband Bobby Rausheck of Danbury, Texas;Son, Charles Ray Smith, Jr. (Rocky) and wife Jeri of Kountze, Texas; Grandchildren, Mike Thomas, Jr., Brandi Thomas Lampard, Tony Kopycinski,

    Pallbearers will be Donnie Taylor, Darrell Murray, Paul Taylor,Charles Conway, Glen Hutto, and Ronnie Perry.

    Lizzie Mae "Liz" Braniff passed away on August 4, 2016 in San Antonio, Texas at the age of 83.

    Liz was born on May 31, 1933 at Pat Leon Creek, Hawthorn, Texas to Nay and Ethel Smith.

    She married her best friend, Jack Braniff in 1953, who preceded her in death.

    She is also preceded in death by her parents and her siblings; Vernon Taylor, Herman Smith, Walter Smith and Nay Smith.

    Family Visitation will be held Sunday, August 7, 2016 from 4PM to 7PM in the Eckols Funeral Home Chapel.

    Services will be held Monday, August 8, 2016 at 10AM in the Eckols Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Dean officiating.

    Interment will follow in the Kenedy Cemetery, Kenedy, TX.

    Aron Samuel Wych

    A Mass of Christian burial for Aron Samuel Wych, 67, of Lumberton was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25, 1995, at Infant Jesus Catholic Church in Lumberton. Interment was at Hooks Cemetery in Kountze. Arrangements were handled by Broussard's Mortuary, Beaumont.

    He died Monday, Jan. 23, 1995, at a Beaumont hospital.

    Wych was a native of Patroon and had lived in Lumberton 26 years. He was a contractor.

    Survivors: wife, Amrmelia Wych of Lumberton; daughters, Janice Morris, Greta Wych, and Joan Garza, all of Lumberton, Connie Thompson of Spring, and Mary K. Lovell of Beaumont; a son, Aron Richard Wych of Lumberton; sisters, Hazel Bellestri of San Augustine and Billie Monceaux of Beaumont; a brother, Herbert T. "Pit" Wych of Hemphill; and 12 grandchildren.

    Herbert Terry "Pit" Wych, 76, died Monday, Jan. 26, 2009 in the Hospice of the Pines, Lufkin. Wych was born on Dec. 24, 1932, in Shelby County. He has lived most of his life in Hemphill coming from San Augustine. He worked as a connector for the Iron Workers Union Local 125 in Beaumont and worked all over the U.S. and other countries suspending bridges and large building and commercial construction primarily working on the installation of the "red iron," the first steel to go up in a structure.

    Wych was in the U.S. Army at the conclusion of the Korean Conflict. His love of life, second only to his family, was rodeoing, especially "bull dogging." He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hemphill, the Gideons, and Masonic Lodge.

    Wych is survived by his wife, Carolyn Minton Wych of Hemphill; son, Mark Wych and wife Amy of Huntington; daughter, Terre McLemore and husband Randy of Nacogdoches; sister, Billie Monceaux and husband Brad of Beaumont; and sister-in-law, Armella Wych of Lumberton. Also four grandchildren; Hillary and Sara McLemore and Natalie and Ruth Wych.

    Visitation was from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27 in the Starr Funeral Home, 510 Starr St. in Hemphill.

    Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday (today), Jan. 28, in the First Baptist Church in Hemphill with burial following in the Myrtle Springs Cemetery in Geneva.

    Services under the direction of Starr Funeral Home.

    Mary was born on September, 15, 1944 to Walter Reese Smith and Maywood West Smith in Beaumont. A lifetime resident of the Sabine County area, Mary loved music, the Hallmark Channel, and food.

    She was preceded in death by her parents Walter and Maywood Smith.

    Mary is survived by her brother Gary Smith and wife Carol of Hemphill; her two sisters, Patsy Kilcrease of Pineland, and Jennifer Hardy and husband Scott of Pineland; her five nephews, Adam, Brett, Brad, Wes, and Reese; and numerous great and great great nieces and nephews.

    Graveside services for Mary will be 12:30, Monday, December 28, 2020, at Antioch Cemetery, in San Augustine County under the direction of Starr Funeral Home.

    The family would like to thank the staffs of Hemphill Care Center and Sabine County Hospital for their care and hard work during this trying time.
