Leon Getz of Schenectady was born in in Bulostock, Russia in 1898, and served as a private during World War I (New York, Abstracts of World War I Military Service). The World War I draft registration cards shown he was born January 1, 1898, and was a student living in Schenectady when he registered for the draft on September 12, 1918, his nearest relative was his mother, Rose Getz, living with him at 842 Lincoln in Schenectady. Leon died in November 1983 in Miami, Florida

The 1915 New York State census lists the family of Chas and Rose Getz, ages 40 and 38, with children Leon (17), Albert (11) and Jeanet (4). residents os Schenectady, NY.

Family/Spouse: Hattie Friedman. Hattie (daughter of Isadore "Isaac" Friedman and Lena ???) was born about 1899 in Schenectady County, New York; died about 1950 in Poughkeepsie, Dutchess County, New York; was buried in Beth Israel Lower Cemetery, Rotterdam, Schenectady County, New York. In 1930, Albert was living with his parents and younger sister in Schenectady, and working as a millwright in a refrigerator department.

At the time of the 1940 census, Albert was married, and working as an electrical millright in Schenectady, New York. He had finished two years of High School. His wife, Grace, had completed four years. They were sharing their home with this father, Charles, age 69 and widowed, and shown as born in Poland.

The Social Security Death Index shows his last residence was Schenetady, New York.

Albert married Grace E. Weisheit on 9 Feb 1940 in Schenectady County, New York. Grace was born on 13 Feb 1910 in New York; died on 12 Jul 1991 in Dekalb County, Georgia. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

She can be found on the 1930 Federal Census in Schenectady, New York, and shown as 9 months old (census enumeration date was April 18, 1930, making her born around July or August 1929). On this census, she was listed as a daughter of Leon Getz, age 32, born in Russia of Russian parents, mother tongue listed as Jewish, year of emigration ca 1887, and shown as a proprietor of a meat market. His wife was 30 year old Hattie F Getz, was born in New York, as was her father, with a mother born in Austria. Arlene was the only child present in the home.
