    Mrs. Avey Elizabeth Smith of San Augustine, Texas, passed away Sunday, December 29, 2019, in San Augustine at the age of 87 years, 1 month, 10 days.

    Born November 19, 1932, Mrs. Smith was a native and former resident of Port Neches, Texas. She had lived in the San Augustine area for the past several years. Working as a bookkeeper, she retired from the Deep East Texas Electric Co-op and while living in Port Neches she worked in banking. She attended First Baptist Church.

    In high school at Port Neches, she was a member of the pep squad and Future Homemakers of America (FHA) Chapter. She had a great love for sewing. An accomplished quilter, she was a member of the quilting clubs in San Augustine.

    A great cook, she made the best chicken and dumplings, along with seafood gumbo and the best "Mrs. Smith's" apple pie!

    Her survivors include her children, Nay O. Smith Jr. and Cathleen Channel-Smith of San Augustine, Matt A. Smith and Carol Cartwright of San Augustine, and Cindy Watts and Ron Watts of Tyler; grandchildren, Nay Smith III, Kasey and Jason Radican, Shena Smith, Annaka Watts, Matthew and Sunnie Channel, Cami and Luke Clements, Chelsi Ellerbe, and Clint Cartwright; and great-grandchildren, Braylan Radican, Makena Radican, Skylar Smith, Cannon Smith, Isabella Channel, Brodie Channel, Crew Channel, Wylie Clements, Tilden Clements, Presleigh Ellerbe, Haden Ellerbe, Emery Ellerbe, Rhett Ellerbe, and Cetch Cartwright. Survivors also include her sisters-in-law, Dovie Renfroe of San Augustine, Mildred Scarborough of Lumberton, Loretta Richards of San Augustine, Tootie Smith of Center, and Martha Smith of Seguin.

    She was preceded in death by her husband, Nay O. Smith Sr.; and a son, Glenn Edward Smith.

    Funeral services are set for 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 2, 2020, at Wyman Roberts Memorial Chapel, located at 316 W. Columbia Street in San Augustine, with Charles Sharp officiating. Committal service and interment will follow at Antioch Cemetery in San Augustine County.

    Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 1, 2020, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Wyman Roberts Funeral Home.

    Pallbearers: Monte Taylor, Carlos Taylor, Gary Smith, James Richards, Mike Bridges, and Rocky Smith.
