    Obituary

Goldie Marie (Steinacher) Matejka, 82 years of age of Crete, passed away on January 10, 2012 at Tabitha Care Center of Crete, NE. Goldie was born March 5, 1929 to Tillie (Soukup) and Valentine Steinacher. Goldie was the eldest of four children. She attended school at Milligan.

On July 7th, 1949 she married William "Bill" Matejka. Three children were born to this union, Leonard, Don and Lori. The family lived in the Geneva/Milligan area until settling in Dorchester in 1967 until moving to Crete in 1997.

Goldie loved to cook and bake. Her specialty was kolaches and dinner rolls. She shared with her family that she made 30 dozen kolaches in one day and she thought she would never get done making those on that day. She had the talent and training to extend a helping hand to others as she volunteered with the Blue Valley organization for many years. She enjoyed playing Bingo and attending auctions with Bill. They would travel to all the local area farmers markets and sell their produce from their garden. She had such a collection of recipes that she published her own cookbook. She was proud of her accomplishments and loved sharing stories with others. On several occasions Goldie would teach words and phrases to her family in Czech to keep her ability to speak and understand her language of national heritage. Goldie would open her home to anybody who needed a place to get a bite of food or need someone to visit with. She always had company at her apartment at Centennial Terrace when family would stop for a visit. Holidays were important for Goldie. She would prepare, cook and bake for more people than were invited. This way everyone would go home with a goodie bag.

She was preceded in death by her husband, daughter in infancy, her parents, brother Emil Steinacher and brother and sister-in-law Milo and Linda Steinacher.

Goldie is survived by her sons; Leonard and wife, Jane of Loomis, Don and wife Terri of Crete. Five grandchildren; Jennifer Henshaw of Ashburn, VA, Stephanie Matejka of Lincoln, Matthew Matejka of Lincoln, A.J. and Aden Matejka of Loomis. One great-granddaughter Chloe Matejka of Lincoln, sister, Rose Mae Pomajzl and husband Roy of Wilber, Sister-in-Law Shirley Steinacher of Geneva and many nieces and nephews.
