    Notes:

Io Halbert McIlhaney, 97, of Lubbock passed away on Monday, May 3, 2004, following a brief illness at her longtime home at Carillon Village.

She was born the fifth of nine children to Levi Thompson Halbert and Mary Ann Armstrong Halbert on Sept. 23, 1906 in Milam, Sabine County. Io graduated from Milam High School in 1924 and received an Elementary Teaching Certificate from Stephen F. Austin State College in 1926. She taught school in the Houston area for several years and held a Lifetime Teaching Certificate from the State of Texas. She met Joe S. McIlhaney, owner of McIhaney Creamery in Lubbock, during one of his frequent business trips to Southeast Texas. They married in September of 1934. He preceded her in death in 1999. A daughter, JoAnne Conely, also preceded her in death.

Io was a woman of extraordinary abilities and energy. Her many activities and interests included membership in the Lubbock Women's Club, the Lubbock Women's Forum, and the Allegro Music Club. She was continually involved in the PTA while her children were in school. She served as president of Carroll Thompson PTA, president of the Lubbock City Council PTA, and received life membership in the Texas Congress of Parents and Teachers. Community activities gave her great pleasure, particularly her dedicated service to the Lubbock Well Baby Clinic and her longtime volunteer work as a docent at the Western Heritage Center.

She later received a lifetime membership in the West Texas Museum Association. Io was a faithful and involved member of the Lubbock First Baptist Church from the very beginning of her life in Lubbock. She was active in the Women's Missionary Union and taught a women's Sunday school class for many years. She was a longtime member of the church choir and in her latter years loved being a member of the church's Prime Time Singers. Above all, Io was sustained by her joyous love of the Lord and devotion to her family.

It has been said that an important part of life is just "being there," and Io was always there - for her family, for her friends, for her church, for people who needed her, and for the entire Lubbock community. In recognition of her years of interests and service she was nominated for, and given, the "Outstanding Older Texas Award" by the Governor of Texas.

Io is survived by a daughter, Nancy J. Rainwater and her husband, Clois, of Honey Grove; three sons, Joe S. McIlhaney, Jr., M.D. and his wife, Marion, of Austin, Richard G. McIlhaney and his wife, Martha, of Copper Canyon, and David L. McIlhaney and his wife, Jane, of Ventura, Calif.; a sister, Lollie Lee of Waco; 14 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, May 7, 2004, at the Ford Chapel of First Baptist Church with the Rev. John H. Ballard officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Sanders Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6 until 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral hom e. Pallbearers will be Jason McIlhaney, Scott McIlhany, Kevin McIlhany, Mark Connell, and David Lutz. The family would like to thank the staff of Carillon Village for the love and excellent care provided to their mother during the last seventeen years, and particularly the staff of Carillon House, who cared for her during her final days. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Carillon Foundation.

  1. 11.  Mary Dorothy Browning Descendancy chart to this point (5.Biddie2, 1.Levi1) was born on 28 Aug 1924 in Sabine County, Texas; died on 24 Sep 2021 in Hemphill, Sabine County, Texas; was buried on 28 Sep 2021 in Joel Halbert Cemetery, Milam, Sabine County, Texas.

    Notes:

Mary Dorothy Dubose, 97, of Milam, Texas passed away on Friday, September 24, 2021 at Hemphill Care Center.

Dorothy was born on August 28, 1924 in Milam, Texas to Lacy Theron Browning and Biddie Orlean Halbert Browning.

Mary Dorothy, known as Dot-dee to many and as Grandmother to those blessed enough to call her theirs, was truly a one of a kind gem. Her relentless love was freely given to all. She had a special way of connecting with everyone she met, making you feel as though you were the most important person in her life. To be loved by her is truly one of the greatest blessings you could experience. Her love for missions ran deep as she passionately served with the mission service Corp and through the WMU in her local church for numerous years.

Grandmother's passion and ability to unconditionally love is undoubtedly rooted in her personal relationship with Christ, whom she trusted through all of life's trials, heartbreaks, and celebrations. Her life and legacy will forever be a beacon and testimony to the gospel of Christ. While she could be serious, our Grandmother was not without a silly side. Her quick-wit and quirky sense of humor could send you into a belly laugh at a moments notice. She was the essence of grace and beauty, and not just because you couldn't catch her without her rouged cheeks and red lipstick. Any that knew her are better because of it and we rejoice in the fulfillment of her faith as we know she is singing and praising in Heaven today.

She is survived by her sons, Daniel W. DuBose, Jr. and wife, Betty, of Houston and Perry B. DuBose and wife, Jane, of Sugar Land; daughters, Deborah Kindell and husband, Mark, of Baytown, Lydia DuBose of Milam, and Merri Tieman and husband, Michael, of Milam; sister, Nina Beth Proctor and husband, Boyd, of Leesburg; grandchildren, Paige DuBose, Lacy Wilson, Wade Greathouse, Paula Inman, Jen Lesak, Christian Greathouse, Travis Johns, Ryan Tieman, Price DuBose, and Elissa Jacobs; 14 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

Dorothy was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband, Daniel Wade DuBose, Sr.

A visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, September 27, 2021 at Starr Funeral Home in Hemphill, Texas.

Funeral services will began at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at Starr Funeral Home Chapel in Hemphill, Texas with Bro. Michael Tieman and Jim Nethery officiating.

Burial will follow funeral services at Joel Halbert Cemetery in Milam, Texas under the direction of Starr Funeral Home with her grandsons serving as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bethany Baptist Church Renovation or Lottie Moon, P. O. Box 7, Milam, Texas 75959.

Condolences can be made and guest book may be signed online at starrfuneralhome.com.

Lori loved her family, her friends, and her life. She lived life to its fullest. Deeply loyal, passionately loving, and fiercely caring to all she loved and the causes she supported. We will miss her but know she has been restored to eternal life because of her faith in Jesus Christ.

Lori graduated from Nacogdoches High School. She earned her BA in 1990, her Masters in English, and then her law degree in 1994 all from Baylor University. Lori Weems Evers fought, for people in areas of Family, Criminal, Probate and Government Law. She was an experienced & accomplished Florida attorney with over 20 years' experience.

In 2017, Lori made the decision to return to her roots in the law, representing people who could not fight for themselves. An expert on the Florida Constitution and its interrelation with complex statutory and regulatory schemes, Lori could spot legal issues decisively and accurately. Most importantly, she used her experiences lobbying opinion makers and leaders to solve her client's problem as quickly, creatively, inexpensively, and painlessly as possible.

Lori fought tirelessly for children and was recognized by The Florida Bar, Lawyers for Children America, the American Bar Association and Holland & Knight's highest awards for representing Florida's most vulnerable. Lori met her late husband, Greg Evers, in politics and they made their home in Baker, Florida.
