    Billie Ruth Ferguson

    Billie Ruth Ferguson, 77, died in her residence in Milam after an illness. She was born in Hemphill to Carter Arnold and Connie Brown White. Billie Ruth lived in Crockett from 1969 until 1984 when she moved to Jasper. In 2005 she moved back to Hemphill and was a member of the Hemphill Church of God.

    She is survived by her mother Connie White of Hemphill, her sons Kenneth Alvin Ferguson and his wife Donna of Milam, Robert Arnold Ferguson and his wife Raven of Jasper, and Ronald E. Ferguson and his wife Julie of Dallas, her sisters Johnnie Mae Smith and her husband Millard of Milam, Betty Jo Webb and her husband Stevie of Center, and Linda Gail Horton and her husband Joe of Hemphill. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Nikki [Ferguson of Coeur D'Alene, Idaho], Zack, and Katy [Ferguson of Jasper].

    Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2011, in the Starr Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM, Thursday, Nov. 17, 2011, in the Starr Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Hemphill Cemetery.

    A more detailed version of this obituary was in the November 16, 2011 issue of the Sabine County Reporter on page 15. It noted, among other things, that she was the eldes daughter of Arnold and Connie White and was raised in the Pine Park community of Sabine County, and they were members of the Church of God in Hemphill. She attended both Bronson and Hemphill High Schools, graduating from Hemphill in 1951, and was married to Alvin Ferguson on Feb. 21, 1953 in Hemphill. They delivered and raised their three sons in Hemphill, moving to Crockett, Texas in 1970, where she worked as a seamstress at Alee Work Clothes. She and Alvin retired to Jasper, and following his death and the circumstances of "Hurricane Rita" she moved back to her hometown to be near her mother and sisters, and doing what she enjoyed most, attending church, gardening, and spending time with family and friends. She often visited relatives in both Sabine County and Lake Charles, LA.

    Billie married Alvin Eldridge Ferguson on 21 Feb 1953 in Hemphill, Sabine County, Texas. Alvin (son of Wallace Turner Ferguson and Mildred Josephine Eldridge) was born on 26 Nov 1931 in Sabinetown, Sabine County, Texas; died on 16 Jan 2002 in Jasper, Jasper County, Texas; was buried in Hemphill City Cemetery, Hemphill, Sabine County, Texas.     Mrs. Johnnie Mae Smith, 79, of Milam died Friday, March 31, 2017 at CHI Memorial Hospital, Lufkin, TX. after a brief illness. Johnnie was born April 30, 1937 in Hemphill, TX. to Charles Conway (Connie) Brown White and Carter Arnold White and resided in Sabine County throughout her life. She was a housewife, mother and lifelong member of Hemphill Church of God. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Millard Smith; son, Randy Smith and wife Becky of Strickland Crossing; daughters Sheila Woods of Hudson and Angie Fuller and husband Rusty of Lufkin, two sisters, Betty Webb of Center and Linda Horton of Hemphill; grandchildren Justin Smith and wife Cassie, Kaitlyn Smith, Benjamin Smith; Hannah Woods, Reece Woods, Haylee Woods, Hayden Woods; Samantha McElroy and husband Will, Demi Fuller and Chase Fuller. She was preceded in death by her sister Billie Ruth Ferguson and son-in-law Vince Woods. Mrs. Smith is also survived by brothers in law Lamar Smith and wife Ruth, Tommy Smith and wife Juanita, Morris Shofner; sisters in law Janice Hughes and Brenda Elliott. Mrs. Smith leaves behind a large number of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. Visitation will be from 6 until 8 PM, Monday evening at Starr Funeral Home with the funeral service at 2:00 PM Tuesday, April 4, in the Starr Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Liberty Springs Cemetery.     Betty Jo Webb, 80, of Center, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 29, 2020, in Garrison.

    Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, December 3, 2020, at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center with Bro. Bobby Bressman officiating. Visitation with limited family present will begin prior to the service at Noon. Private family graveside will be at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Center. The family requests social distancing be observed.

    Betty was born in Hemphill, Texas, on July 19, 1940, to Carter Arnold and Connie White. She graduated from Hemphill High School in 1958. She married Robert Stephen Webb on February 9, 1963. Steve and Betty made their home in Center. They spent 50 years together until his death in 2013. Over the years, all the neighborhood kids could be found playing around the Webb's house.

    Betty started a career in banking and loved her job and customers. She worked at Farmers State Bank for 34 years until retirement. She loved the Lord and was a member of First Baptist Church of Center. Betty also served on Housing Authority Board of City of Center for over 20 years.

    Betty loved her family and friends dearly. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and watching them grow. She always looked forward to a visit from her friends to catch up. She was an avid reader and loved a good book. Betty touched many lives and will be missed by everyone.

    She is survived by her sons, Barry Webb and wife Michelle of Crystal Beach, TX, and Darren Webb and wife Wendi of Lago Vista, TX; sister, Linda Horton of Hemphill, TX; brother-in-law, Millard Smith of Hemphill, TX; sister-in-law, Mildred Webb of Center, TX; grandchildren, Emily Webb of Fort Smith, Arkansas, Taylor Webb of Lago Vista, TX, Mallory Webb of Lago Vista, TX, Trace Greer of Nacogdoches, TX, and Tatum Greer of New Braunfels, TX; great grandchildren, Charlotte Webb of Lago Vista, TX, Averi Greer of Nacogdoches, TX, and Addison Greer of Nacogdoches, TX; numerous nephews, nieces, and a host of family and friends.

    Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Steve Webb; parents, Carter Arnold and Connie White; sister and brother-in-law, Billie Ruth and Alvin Ferguson; sister, Johnnie Mae Smith; brothers-in-law, Joe Horton and Eugene Webb.

    Pallbearers will be Michael Spells, Allen Metcalf, George Stubblefield, Randy Smith, Chris Mayfield, and Eric Williams. Honorary pallbearers will be Keith Webb, Robert Ferguson, Kenneth Ferguson, and Ronald Ferguson.

    In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Affinity Hospice, 203 Hurst St., Center, Texas 75935, or First Baptist Church 117 Cora Street, Center, Texas 75935.
