Ira Levi Garrett Bean

An Ira Bean was one of the first teachers in a one teacher school in Newton County, Texas in 1898, held in the Methodist church in Survey. (Newton County Historical Committee, , "Glimpses of Newton County History," Nortex Press, Burnet, TX, copyright 1982, p. 163).

In "Newton County Nuggets," another publication of Nortx Press, c. 1986, Ida Mae Stewart recalls that she "for six years worked for the Ira Bean family. This family was very generous to me and I still count them among my friends."
