(Source: FindAGrave listing for his father, Charles Ayers "Jack" Wood, with research done by R. Strickland)
At one time he owned the land where the Jasper County Court House now stands. (White and Toole, p 72).
From FindAGrave:
Thomas E. Wood, Sr. was the son of Charles A. Wood and Elizabeth Muse. His middle name was probably "Edwin" since he is listed by that name in the 1850 census and "Edwine" in the 1860 census. His son, Thomas E. Wood, Jr. went by "Edd."
He married Nancy Meigs Sep 28, 1865 in Jasper Co, TX. They were the parents of four children.
Thomas E. Wood, Sr. died in 1877 at the age of 33 years, leaving his wife, age 29, with four young children to care for. Nancy married second William Wesley "Wes" Dalley on Sep 20, 1879 in Sabine Co, TX. Nancy Dalley is buried in Brookeland Cemetery, Brookeland, Sabine Co, TX.
It is not known where Thomas E. Wood, Sr. is buried. He could be here in the Wood Cemetery near other family members in one of the many unmarked graves, or he could be buried elsewhere in San Augustine or Sabine County. This beautiful spot on the shore of present-day Lake Sam Raburn is a fitting place to honor his short life.

Wilna was born to William T. Wood and Sarah Ann McLemore Morgan in East Texas's Pineland. She had two sisters and three brothers.
Wilna was a painter. She belonged to the China Painters Guild and numerous other art societies. She used oils, pastels and watercolors on canvas. She sold some of her paintings to local art galleries in Oklahoma City and she sold her china painting pieces to boutique shops in the Midwest and Florida.
Wilna attended Beaumont High and then her family moved to Panama City, Florida and Georgia during WWII. Her father was a shipbuilder. Wilna worked for the USO during the war and was a secretary at a military HDQ in Cape Cod, MA for a few years.

Sarah's grandfather was John Woodlief Jr, the father of John, Edward, and George Woodlief. It is a known fact that the Woodlief and Poythress families intermarried. In September 1717, Sarah's father, Mr. Edward Woodlief, became sick and realizing his time was at hand, made his will disposing of his wordly estate. He died in the early part of the next year. His will was filed February 10, 1718. He bequethed to Sarah one heifer, calling her "daughter Pace" in the will. At a Court Held at Merchants Hope for Prince George County 8th December 1719 p. 302 Sarah Pace, wife of Richard Pace, relinquished her dower in land sold by her husband to Thomas Goodwyn.
When Sarah's husband Richard died, he left her an unusual bequest, his set of pistols. This is not the sort of legacy a man normally leaves to a female regardless of her relatioship to him, which makes the author believe they were considered among his prized possessions. It is unknown, because of the loss of records, how long Sarah lived or what became of their estate.
The author added that it was with great difficulty, through many years of search, to discover the names of only a few of their children. Once again, it could only be accomplished through a process of elimination by a close study of the existing records of the area. Richard was the only male member of his family, meaning the son's of James and Elizabeth, that remained in Prince George County. The others had all gone to North Carolina. The children of Richard and Sarah were Richard, Francis, and John. It is also believed that Sarah, wife of John Bonner, and Elizabeth, wife of Richard Biggins, are also children, but this has not been proven to any degree of satisfaction. (p. 130)
The son of John Woods and brother of Seborn. They moved to Texas in 1840, and settled in Newton County. Allen helped to organize the Sardis Baptist Church in Burkville and became a deacon and clerk for the rest of his life. His name is on the Muster Roll in 1862, of Company H, 13th (Burnett's) Tex. Cav. At the time he was 58 years old. (White and Toole, p 32). They show his date of birth as 15 Feb 1804 in Mississippi, and date of death as 31 July 1887. Their date of birth does not fit with census records. Barbara S. Wright, on her website, posted: "He came to Texas in 1840 with his brother Seborn Woods. He had 12 children by first marriage. His name is on the muster roll in 1862 of Company B,13Yh (Burnett's) Texas Calvery Woods, were privates. There are more Woodses in Newton County ,than any other name. The McMahons had the largest connection, but they came from eight different children, while the Woods came from only two heads. The Woods family is not only one of the largest families in the county ,but they are also one of the most useful and respected. The Woodses are mostly Baptist. He is buried in the Woods Cemetery , near Burkeville, Newton Co. Tx. "
FindAGrave lists his full name as William Allen Woods, but it appears only Allen is engraved on his tombstone, which also shows he was "aged 73 Ys 6 Ms & 16 Ds."

A minister of the Baptist Church. He was called "Black Lewis" to distinguish him from a cousin by the same name who was also a Baptist Minister. He was the Pastor of the Broaddus Baptist Church. When grandchildren came for a homecoming, they always arrived early in order to sit in his class and hear him teach (White and Toole, p 76).

His brothers were Thomas, Edward and William who lived in Goochland County, Virginia....William Wooldridge of Elbert County, was the son of John Wooldridge of Chesterfield County, Virginia. In McIntosh's book it was further noted that "William Wooldridge, the father of Gibson Wooldridge, came to Surrey County, North Carolina from Chesterfield County, Virginia in 1773 as deeds of record in the former county show. He served as a member of the grand jury of Surrey County as shown in Book 1775-1778, Index of Colonial and State Records, Vol. XXX, page 424. He was appointed Captain of his district in 1778 and retained that position until his removal to Georgia. This William married Sarah Flournoy, a Hugenot, who came to Virginia in 1700. In her DAR application, Eva Mae Halbert Hackney, detailed the following as William Wooldridge's services in assisting the establishment of American Independence during the War of the Revolution: --Captain of District (not military) and Juror for Surrey County, North Carolina. (Reference "North Carolina State Records" Vol 22 p. 502, Vol 23 p. 994, Vol 30 p. 424, DAR Patriot Index p. 762).

Born in New York City, she was a daughter of Franklin H. Work "Frank" (1819? 1911), a well-known stockbroker and prot?g? of Cornelius Vanderbilt, and his wife, Ellen Wood (1831? 1877). [1]
On September 22, 1880, at Christ Church, New York City, Frances Work married the Hon. James Boothby Burke Roche, who would later become the 3rd Baron Fermoy. They had four children: two daughters Cynthia Roche and Eileen, and twin sons Francis and Edmund. Edmund later became the 4th Baron Fermoy, and was the grandfather of Diana, Princess of Wales. Frances divorced Roche for desertion in 1891, before he had succeeded to the barony. Her lawyer was Thomas F. Bayard, former United States Secretary of State.[2]
On August 4, 1905, the Hon. Mrs. Burke Roche married Aurel de Batonyi, a Hungarian-born riding instructor and society horseman. When he had immigrated to the United States on the Majestic in 1891, Batonyi claimed he was a count. [3] It was also suggested that his real name was Arthur Cohn. [4] Frances sued de Batonyi for divorce two years after their marriage, allegedly because her father threatened to disinherit her if she continued to live with her husband. [4]
She was a prominent figure in the New York City and Newport, Rhode Island, social sets, and was friends with Mrs Reginald Vanderbilt. Her sister, Lucy Bond Work married Peter Cooper Hewitt, a son of New York City Mayor Abram Stevens Hewitt.
She died in the city of her birth at the age of 89. [1]

PRI article, "Dollar Princesses"
Next week, Prince William will take Kate Middleton as his wife in what's being hailed, again, as the wedding of the century.
The pews will be filled with world leaders, other royal family and members of the British aristocracy.
Within that aristocracy will be a strong American connection. For many of their number are descendants of a generation of U.S. women. They were called the "dollar princesses."
The dollar princesses were a breed of very rich American girls who came over at the end of the 19th century to Britain and to Europe, looking for titles. And it was simple as that. It was cash in return for a title.
Daisy Goodwin has written novel, "The American Heiress," based on the lives of these women. Goodwin said newly wealthy Americans like the Vanderbilts had just about everything they wanted, except social status.
"Even though the Vanderbilts, for example, had more money than anybody, they weren't being asked to the nicest parties."
Consuelo Vanderbilt
The solution lay across the Atlantic in Britain. Dukes and earls, struggling with debt and dilapidated castles, were looking for wives with multi-million dollar dowries. The Vanderbilts 19-year-old daughter, Consuelo, married the Duke of Marlborough in 1895.
Goodwin said she was one of the first to make the journey, and the deal.
"When these American girls came over they were so much richer, so the men could hardly resist. And a quarter of the British aristocracy married American money in the period between 1890 and 1910. It's no exaggeration to say these dollar princesses saved the British aristocracy for a generation. They kept the stately homes of England going."
The phenomenon sparked a magazine called "Titled American," which Goodwin said was the "match.com" of its day.
The lives of the dollar princesses were closely followed in the U.S. press.
British men found them vivacious and independent. But for all their fame and considerable fortune, Goodwin said they failed to make fans out of one group ? the English women who suddenly lost their chance at nobility.
"They had kind of grown up from the nursery expecting to marry the Duke of This or the Earl of That, and that's what they were trained to do. And then suddenly, their career prospects were kind of jettisoned by some American girl from nowhere in their opinion who came in looking lovely but had no idea about how to dress, what to do, how to hold her fork or whatever and she would just pinch the most eligible bachelor from under these poor British girls' noses. And they hated it."
As in the much-watched case of Princesses Diana, many of the dollar princesses ended up in loveless marriages. That includes Diana's own great grandmother, Frances Work who was, in fact a dollar princess.
And so, Prince William also has stateside ancestry, thanks to the American obsession with British class and status. In some ways, said Goodwin, it marked the start of Anglo-mania.
"America had all the money but Britain had all the tradition and hey, that's something that hasn't really changed has it, you know. I would say that in America, there's probably more interest in the royal wedding than there is here even. And I'm amazed by that. But I think it's rather wonderful."
