Rosa enjoyed planting vegetables in her garden and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was a devout Christian and always went to church on Sundays. She was a member of East Mayfield Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Terrell Clark; her daughter, Shirley Diann Clark; her parents, sisters and brothers. She is survived by one brother, Billy Ray Wright; her sons, William Ricky Clark of Hemphill, Ronald Clark and wife, Kathy, also of Hemphill and Michael Clark and wife, Marilyn, of LaBelle, Texas; 11 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday, June 17, 2022 at Starr Funeral Home, 510 Starr Street, Hemphill, Texas. Funeral services will begin at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 18, 2022 in Starr Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Floyd Wright and Bro. Gene Lee officiating. She worked for Southwestern Bell as a phone operator for many years, and was a faithful member of North End Baptist Church. If you missed a holiday or birthday, you always received a heart felt card in the mail. Maw Maw always put her family first. She was the quintosential mother and grandmother and she will never be replaced. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Sarah Stafford; step-son, Billy Baber and his wife, Judy; grandchildren, Grace Baber, Anna Baber Childs and her husband, Patrick; Ellen Baber, David Baber and his fianc?e, Pam Causey; Sherri Baber Sherwin and her husband, Jon; great-grandchildren, Taylor Grace Hughes, Stafford Wayne Baber, Matthew Sherwin, and Nathan Sherwin; sister, Helen Minnis; several nieces and nephews; and many dear close friends. She was the fifth of seven children. She died October 11, 2012 at Autumn House in Lincoln, NE at the age of 85 years, 6 months, and 15 days. Virginia attended grade school at Goldenrod District #42, and graduated from Ohiowa High School in 1944. She then attended summer school at Kearney College earning her Normal Training Teaching Certificate. She then taught at two country schools, Dudley and Harmony. Virginia met Milton Vavra at a dance in Ohiowa. They were married September 2, 1947 at the Methodist Church in Ohiowa. Milt and Gin began their 54 year marriage on a Saline County farm that was originally home to Milton's parents. They were parents of two children, Kay Janelle and Daniel James. Virginia was devoted to her children. She enjoyed her grandchildren and great- grandchildren to whom she was generous, contributing towards their education. She tended a large garden, canning and freezing produce each year. She loved to bake and was known for her rolls and braided egg bread. She enjoyed sewing and had the goal of making a quilt for each grandchild. She was always on call to drive a tractor or truck, or run to the implement store for parts. When Dan returned home to farm, Milton and Virginia built a new home a few miles away and continued to farm. She and Milton especially enjoyed dancing and attended many polka and modern dances. They also liked to travel in later years, enjoying several trips with Becwar Tours, as well as many Army reunion trips that took them to several states. Virginia was an active member of the community. She was a member of the Milligan Juniors Extension Club and The Milligan Legion Auxiliary Post 240. She also volunteered her time with the American Red Cross Bloodmobile. Virginia was also an active member of the Milligan United Methodist Church. She taught Sunday School, and served as Sunday School Superintendent. She was also a faithful member of the United Methodist Women. Virginia is preceded in death by her parents, husband Milton in 2001: infant sister Faye, sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Keith Ozenbaugh of Ohiowa, brother and sister-in-law Norman and Beverly Wright of Geneva, and brother-in-law Leslie Vavra of Exeter. She is survived by daughter Kay and husband Don Rempe, of Lincoln, NE; son Dan and wife Jo Ann (Christiancy) Vavra of Friend, NE. Three sisters and their husbands, Elnora and Ed Schulz of Oxnard, CA; Delight and Archie Chapman of Geneva NE, and Gloria and Hal Mullison of Flat Rock, NC. Sister-in-law Evelyn Vavra of Geneva, NE. Seven grand-children; Paul (Renee)Rempe of Glenview, IL, Mike (Angie) Rempe of North Richland Hills, TX, Kris (Jason) Rohde of Omaha, NE, Meghan (Bobby) Lee of Kilua,HI, Andrew Rempe of Lincoln, NE, Kelly (Brett) Burenheide of Firth, NE, and Corey (Natasha)Vavra of Lincoln, NE. Thirteen great-grandchildren; Olivia, Anna, and Emma Rempe; Makenzie, Alec, and Grace Rempe; Gaven and Harrison Rohde; Liliana Lee; Carter, Dawson, and Easton Burenheide; and Brogan Vavra. Many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Memorial services will be conducted from the Farmer & Son Funeral Home - Kotas Chapel in Milligan, Nebraska on Monday, October 15, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. A signing of the book will take place on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting friends from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home in Milligan. Wych was born on Dec. 24, 1932, in Shelby County. He has lived most of his life in Hemphill coming from San Augustine. He worked as a connector for the Iron Workers Union Local 125 in Beaumont and worked all over the U.S. and other countries suspending bridges and large building and commercial construction primarily working on the installation of the "red iron," the first steel to go up in a structure. Wych was in the U.S. Army at the conclusion of the Korean Conflict. His love of life, second only to his family, was rodeoing, especially "bull dogging." He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hemphill, the Gideons, and Masonic Lodge. Wych is survived by his wife, Carolyn Minton Wych of Hemphill; son, Mark Wych and wife Amy of Huntington; daughter, Terre McLemore and husband Randy of Nacogdoches; sister, Billie Monceaux and husband Brad of Beaumont; and sister-in-law, Armella Wych of Lumberton. Also four grandchildren; Hillary and Sara McLemore and Natalie and Ruth Wych. Visitation was from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27 in the Starr Funeral Home, 510 Starr St. in Hemphill. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday (today), Jan. 28, in the First Baptist Church in Hemphill with burial following in the Myrtle Springs Cemetery in Geneva. Funeral services were held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Douglas Funeral Home, Rev. S. R. Wurtz officiating. Burial was in Elkland Cemetery. Jane was a caring and devoted teacher who consistently stressed the importance of family involvement with her students, and received an outstanding teacher recognition by Henderson ISD. She enjoyed retirement at Emerald Bay community,often saying her happiest days were there with family and friends. She is survived by her loving husband, Bob; daughter, Mary Catherine Stephenson and husband Dr. Scott Stephenson of Dallas; son, Robert Allen Youngblood II and wife Melissa Youngblood; and brother, Frank Dowling and wife Jackie of Austin. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Benjamin, James, and John Stephenson, and Brandon and Jessica Youngblood. Jane and Bob celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary on July 16, 2012.Graveside services were conducted in Bethel Cemetery in Rusk County on Thursday, August 23, 2012 as well as memorial service at Emerald Bay Community Church with Dr. Jay Riley officiating at both services. MARGARET ANNA YOUNGBLOOD RAGAN DECEMBER 26, 1963 Mrs. Margaret Anna "Maggie" Youngblood Ragan will be 92 years old February 9, 1964, but a fresh complexion, twinkling eyes and amazing energy belie those years. Born in 1872 at the family home just past the bend in the north edge of Hemphill, Sabine County, Texas on the Milam road, she is the daughter of the master James and Margaret Smith Youngblood, members of pioneer families in Sabine County. The Youngblood's came from Mississippi by the way of Louisana. Mr. Youngblood, oldest of 13 children, fought in 3 wars---Civil, Indian and Mexican--and did not receive a scratch. His relatives were not so fortunate, however. His father was killed in the Civil war (it is believed that he died in 1862); two brothers died in service, one lost an arm and another a leg. Mrs. Youngblood's grandfather, Robert H. "Bob " Smith was a man of means when he came to Texas. In the 1830's, persons desiring to become a citizen of Texas were required to have a sponsor who was already a citizen. Sam Houston, himself sponsored Mr. Smith, who lived on the Yellow pine Hi way where Roy Payne now lives. Bob Smith bought thousands of acres in many surveys in Sabine and other counties. On January 3, 1897, Margaret Anna was married to John A. Ragen, who was born where Woods Garage now is. He is the son of Dr. Jubal Harper and Martha Ann Broadway Ragan, pioneers from Virginia. Before they were married, they never went anywhere together. During the week, he would send her a note by a Negro boy telling her he would be coming to see her on Sunday afternoon at the home of her parents. Her sister and family did not get to the wedding because the oxen which were to pull the wagon got out of the pasture and could not be found in time. In 1900 they loaded up all their belongings in a covered wagon and drove a pair of mules to Greer County, Oklahoma to visit her father, sister and brother who had moved up there. It took them three weeks to get there, staying in wagon yards at night, and cooking in a "cook house" when they were in towns. Most of the time, however, they tied up by the side of the road, if you could call it a road, and did Thier cooking on campfires and slept in the wagon. They baked biscuits and cornbread everyday, using a "Dutch Oven" with 3 legs and a scooped out lid to put the coals on. She says it baked real good. After a week or two of visiting, they set out on the return trip, but stopped for a year at the Halsell Ranch where they both worked. While there they took a train to Wichita Falls to see Ringland Bros. Circus and came home that night after the show. It was the only train ride that Mrs, Ragan ever took. They finally returned to Hemphill because they did not like the severe weather, sand storms, wind and cold, and because they could not find a house to buy except a "dug out" This was a house built into the side of a hill with a portion of the hill used as walls so as to conserve building material which was quite scarce on the prairie in those days. Back in Hemphill, they bought a log house on 63 acres of land three miles south of town, which they farmed until 1928, when they traded with Bob Crowell and moved to Hemphill. Mr. Ragan died in 1958, and since then Mrs. Ragan has made her home with her only child, Miss. Willie Ragan of Houston. They spend time as possible at their home here. Mrs Ragan recalls an incident of their Oklahoma trip. While they were spending time in a Fort Worth Wagon Yard, with a rain coat hung over the front of the wagon sheet. She had laid out a pair of trousers on the spring seat for Mr. Ragan to put on in the morning, and during the night she saw them rise up and go back down. The next morning they were gone, but when Mr. Ragan went to feed his mules, there the pants hung. Since there was no money in the pocket, the robber evidently didn't care to keep them. James Youngblood is listed along with a brother and sister as living in Greer County Oklahoma and were the purpose of the above trip in 1900. However James Youngblood is listed on the 1910 Census of Sabine Co. TX. Therefore sometime between 1900 and 1910 he had returned to Hemphill. C. Royall Oct 18, 1969. Michael Youngblood was the son of Henry Youngblood and his wife, Sarah Miller (Harvey) Youngblood. Michael was born in Marion County, Mississippi on 26 March 1823. The family later moved to Caddo Parish, Louisiana. In DeSoto Parish, Louisiana on 16 October 1851 he married Anna Maria Bonneau daughter of Col. William Henry Bonneau and his wife, Anna Maria Swinton. Their children were Mary Adeline (Youngblood) Whitehead and Vanderhorst Bonneau Youngblood. After the death of Anna Maria Bonneau, Michael married her sister, Sarah Adeline Bonneau on 22 April 1878. Michael died 26 April 1898 in Hemphill, TX. Michael enlisted in the Confederate Army on 1 April 1862 at Milam, Texas. He served as a private in Company I of the 1st. Texas Infantry known as Hood's Brigade. On 17 September 1862 during the battle at Sharpsburg, Maryland he suffered wounds to the left hand and arm which resulted in the amputation of his left arm near the shoulder. He was never physically able to return to duty, and he was finally retired on 1 December 1864 at Shreveport, Louisiana. Michael held public office in Sabine County many years. Amanda is also survived by her grandchildren Jean Paul Martin, Jonathan Martin (Sandy), Jeremy Martin, Emily Martin, Elizabeth Martin, and Justen Martin (Brenna). Amanda was the second daughter of Leontine Josephine Morlas and George Edward Zahn, granddaughter of Amanda Henriette Amalia Gehrke and Bernhardt John Zahn, Sr. and Lucine Roquevert and John Dominic Morlas. She was predeceased by her beloved sisters Johanette Zahn Kleinpeter, Lucine Zahn Johnson, and Bennie Jay Zahn. She and her sisters spent their childhoods with the friendships of many cousins in the uptown area. A resident of New Orleans prior to her marriage, she attended Robert Mills Lusher Elementary School, Eleanor McMain High School through 1939, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge 1943. She accepted a teaching position in Port Sulphur, Plaquemines Parish, and there met her future husband, Emile, home on leave during WWII from the Navy. They were married June 21, 1945 and celebrated their 68th anniversary together in 2013. Amanda was a gift to her family and friends, neighbors, and acquaintances and she gave of herself to others as the truly loving give. She devoted her life to the happiness of her beloved husband and children. Her personal pleasures were traveling, entertaining, reading, playing bridge with friends, and spending holidays with her sisters and their families. As a grandmother, she devoted an abundance of time, attention, and love to her grandchildren. We are deeply grateful for the care and attention given to Amanda by Marie Williams, whose loving companionship made Amanda's last years comfortable and fulfilled. Meyers (Frank), Lillian Lucine Kleinpeter, Eugenia K. Silva (Glenn), Cynthia K. Lysinger (Mark), Leon R. Kleinpeter, III (Donna), Terry Marie K. Shaffer (Jack), Edward Z. Martin (Cynthia), Johnette Leontine Martin, Jay Emile Martin, Robert D. Martin (Mary), Gregory F. Martin, David E. Martin, Pamela J. Klagholz (John), Bruce D. Johnson, Ted W. Johnson, Elizabeth J. Huycke (Arthur), 22 great nieces and nephews, 11 great great nieces and nephews, and many loving cousins. A lifelong resident of New Orleans, she attended Robert Mills Lusher Elementary School, Eleanor McMain High School, Louisiana State University and St. Mary's Dominican College, graduating with a BA in 1949. She was Department Manager in the Maintenance Division of Orleans Parish School Board and retired in 1984 with 34 years of service. Bennie's interests included travel, reading, craft projects and sewing, and, dearest to her, researching and writing of ancestral roots and family history. She left us instilled with precious memories of family togetherness and traditions, and with the Grace of God will share eternal life with her beloved family and friends. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, James Edward Johnson; her children, Pamela Jean Klagholz (John Anthony), Bruce and Ted Johnson, and Elizabeth "Beth" Ann Huycke (Arthur Edward); three grandchildren, Katherine Elizabeth Klagholz, John Rudolph Klagholz and Anna Lucine Huycke; two sisters, Amanda Gehrke Zahn Martin (Emile E.) and Bennie Jay Zahn. Brent was born on June 23, 1981 in Fremont, Nebraska to Francis and Holly 'Dahl' Zakovec. He was raised in Morse Bluff and Dodge. Brent graduated from North Bend Central High School in 2000. As a teenager and into his 20's he worked for Bluff Gravel Company until he began his true passion of farming full time. He was a member of St. George Catholic Church in Morse Bluff. Brent had 24 years of Fire Service with Morse Bluff Fire Department and served as Chief for 15 years. In conjunction he also served on Cedar Bluffs Fire Department. Brent married his high school sweetheart, Brook Ladenburger, on August 20, 2005 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in North Bend. They built a life together on their farm south of Morse Bluff where they were blessed with 4 beautiful children. When Brent wasn't dedicating his time to farming or the fire service, he also enjoyed creating almost anything out of steel. From yard ornaments to building useful tools or fixing things on the farm, if it could be fixed or built with a welder, he could do it. Brent was known to be the life of the party or center of attention, putting smiles on everyone's face. He also had a passion for hunting and rodeoing. He created many new friends and hunting partners on his hunting trips, but probably none as special as being able to take his daughter, Ashtynn, on her first successful deer hunt this last year. Brent was dedicated to his community and would drop everything at a moment's notice to help anyone. Services will be conducted by Reverend Randy Carrion. Laverne was born April 19, 1941 to Robert & Maudie Clark Zeagler in Sabine County, Texas. She was a former resident of Orange and lived in Wildwood/Warren area since 1986. Laverne graduated from Pineland High School where she excelled in Basketball, Softball, Volleyball and sports in general. Making all state both her junior and senior years. Laverne was an avid golfer, hunter and gardener. The only thing that exceeded her love for the outdoors was the love of family. She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Jerry Hanks of Warren; sons, Charles Kenneth Hulett, Jr. & wife Lisa of Warren, Roger Wayne Hulett & wife Tina of Port Arthur, Terry Paul Hulett & wife Diane of League City, Ricky Hanks of Brookeland, and Bobby Hanks & wife Roxanne of Vidor; daughter, Lisa Lynn Sanders & husband Mike of Vidor; 17 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the MD Anderson Cancer Center or Shriners Children's Hospital. Services are under the direction of Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home of Woodville.
